Katy perry debuts at no.1, Adele rises and Madonna falls
http://m.billboard.com/news/katy-per...06251352.story
Madonna with gimme all your love falls to no.39 this week wow from no.10 to no.39!! A minor disappointment!! Katy perry with part of me with her numbers for her debut is 411,000 while it took her a whole week to get the numbers as it took lady gaga 3 days for born this way to attract 448,000 copies!! Adele secures the top 10 with 3 songs the first ever as lead artist and no one has done that since Ashanti did it back in 2002!! |

Or are you just talking about female artists? |

Adele is a traditional singer without the bells, whistles, remixes and general distractions from the vapidity and thinness of the actual music.

That doesn't make her more "real" though, that just makes her more straight-forward/conventional as an artist.
It's a shame that the most common compliment people have for Adele is an attempt to discredit other artists. Her gimmick truly seems to be the hype of not having a gimmick, it's nearly all that you hear about. |

Katy Perry also writes, composes and performs live, so I guess she is a 'true artist'. Anyway, she really is huge in America. A few of her songs have sold 5m+ there.

OUCH!!! at Madonna. Down 29 places in a week.
I really must be the only person who likes the song. |

With the gains, Adele makes history as the first female ever to place three titles in the Hot 100's top 10 concurrently as a lead artist. Only one other woman had ever claimed a 30% share of the top 10: Ashanti, who charted a trio of tracks in the top tier the weeks of March 30 and April 6 in 2002.She sported featured artist billing, however, on two of those entries.
This ks what the article says I'm glad for Katy though, i really like the song! |

I really must be the only person who likes the song. I'm disappointed Madonna's doing so poorly. Is it because she's an older artist, do you think? Kate Bush is an older artist who doesn't really register on the charts any moore even though her matieral is so strong. |

sure but her music is too mainstream but adele's music aint mainstream its real.
[...moving on] Surprised to see Katy Perry's "Part of Me" do so well, was expecting top ten, not straight to #1! It is a good song though, I can't wait for a HQ version in the UK. |

But she has become an albums/touring artist now, like all the big rock artists; U2, Bruce, AC/DC, etc. |

I think Madonna's had a good run. I agree she's joined the touring artists like U2, Springsteen, etc.
I don't think the 16-24 record buying public are interested - or perhjaps should be interested - in buying the music of a fiftysomething pop artist. That's not an ageist comment, just common sense. She will always have an audience, just not her old 80s audience. |

I think she's going to have a very successful tour this year...I'd be first in line to see her live again if she wasn't playing at Hyde Park, which is a horrible venue. I hope those who go have a great time, though.

I wouldnt write Madonna off yet...i mean she got to the top 10 Stateside after all and not promoted the song since.
Also with Wild as the next single I really hope it changes things up a bit....definitely the Dance charts Stateside...we will see. I mean the grand majority of her fans anyway will buy MDNA....we are all excited for it! And Madonna will be promoting the album with single releases. We will see what happens....but I wouldnt write her off yet never should tbh.And Katy Perry always was headed for another number 1 Stateside to be honest....its a fun song though. |

Adele's songs get remixed too. She has dance remixes of Rolling in the Deep and Set Fire to the Rain on UK iTunes, and songs like Hometown Glory and Set Fire to the Rain have rap remixes.
