phone trouble
We are having problems with our telephone and the line checks have shown the fault is on our property. I would just like to clarify the extent of BT's responsibility for the cabling. I always thought is was right up to the master socket.
The thing is we have a junction connection in our porch that was put there when many moons ago we switched from the old dial phone to a more modern one. The engineer put in a master socket in our hall with white cable back to the original old grey cable using the old connection box. Also a couple of years ago bt were renewing the cables from the telegraph pole but as I was out at the time, arriving when they had just renewed to our under eaves, the man said oh that's a shame we would have renewed right to the socket if you had been in. Do not want a bill if it can be avoided so forewarned would be forearmed as they say. Thanks Jay |

yes it is BTs responsibility right up to the NTE5 master socket. you might want to remove the faceplate to take off your extensions if you have any, then ask them to perform the test on your line, that way you can be sure they won't charge you. As long as you haven't clearly damaged the cable inside or outside you should be fine. If you have an old 1pair from the eaves then likely this is the fault and it will be replaced. You might want to see if a new cable can take the same route, as in the old cable might have been sealed into the side of your PVC door so the door cannot be used for the entry point of the new cable. Might have to drill through the front room wall and slap the socket straight on there.

It does not mean that ANY fault within your property boundary is chargeable. |

All sorted now.
We have new cable from the eaves to the junction in the porch and a new master socket. There was also a fault in the cabinet down the road which was causing callers getting an engaged signal. ALL FREE ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for the replies. |

Hi Hurley.
Re Lost Hurley is a character in it and I thought you may have used his name for your on-line one. ![]() The old cable was installed in late 70s no idea what sort it was but it had got brittle and cracked so water has got into it. He used a big drill to bring it in at a lower point drilling at an angle from inside through the brickwork as we have a recessed porch. Jay.
