A voice like no other great songs and a lovely person reminds me a little of Adele why is she not recognised more and is it about time she was.

I'm 20 and i only know of her through my mother and love of music its a shame she is almost forgotten.

Your thoughts ?

I cannot see the adele connection..i can only imagine you must be saying that becuase there dress sizes are abit bigger than your usual pop star.
Like when michelle mcmanus became famous..everyone was saying she is like alison moyet as well

she had a great voice, but not on the whole decent material.

Love, love Alison Moyet. And of course there are comparisons with Adele. Big girls with bigger voices, both English (at least in part), both sing across different genres, both sing Streisand style (feet firmly planted and belt it out). Both have/had voices older than their age would suggest.
And they both sing with emotion and it's soulful goodness. I'm lucky to have seen both in concert. Truly awesome.

Alison Moyet was a pioneer to me. Who else was doing what she did back in the 80's and 90's? It wasn't just pop or techno or soul. To swing from Yazoo to a very different sound as a solo artist. Crazy good.

Edit: I agree about the lacking material. So close. Lol.

Well, first off, I think she's very much into doing her own thing, not really in it for the accolades and the attention. I don't think she has much time for record labels after her lengthy spat with Sony, which seriously affected her output, hence why she's a bit thin on material.

And speaking of a bit thin, last time I saw her she was half the woman she used to be (size wise), I totally didn't recognise her.

She still has an amazing voice and being a Yazoo fan, it was great to see her reunited with Vince a few years back, shame there wasn't any new material but there were rumours flying about that she did intend to return to synth-pop, whether that was with Vince or with other writers, which is great news IMO, since I didn't really care much for the covers and the show-stoppers of recent albums. Though I do love Alf, Hoodoo and Hometime.

I didn't realise till watching the Queens Of British Pop programme the other week, that she was really screwed by her record company/contract.
Can't remember the in's and out's but she was restricted as to what sort of material she could put out etc.

I absolutely love Love Ressurection.

There is a very slight vocal similarity between Alison and Adele. Both have bluesy tones to their voices and are belters in a lower register.

Alison is looking so well these days with her weight loss.

No not at all i'm talking about and if you read my post their amazing vocals penchant for great tunes and being well rounded people

And yes in a way i love her first two pop albums but when she was able to have more control we got some spectacular results like the song Smaller it is just a shame her and her record company were at loggerheads i mean having been in Yazoo and with Annie lennox being outwardly experimental there was scope for her to be her own artist and be totally successful

And i understand she isn't in it for the accolades or money but i still think if other lesser talents are awarded for their mediocrity surely she should for her great contribution and would be great if she was bette known to this generation

I love Alison and can understand the comparison with Adele. Yet I have never warmed to Adele and consider her the poor man's version of Alison.

I cant see any similarities in there music..I would say Adeles music is more like Amy Winehouse, Dusty springfield and Duffy, yet I've never heard any of those compared to Alison Moyet. I wonder why

I think so. I can see the slight similarities between Alison "Alf" Moyet and Adele. To me, they're both great "blue eyed soul" vocalists. Alison had a hit single in 1985 with her cover of Ketty Lester's song, Love Letters. I think Adele would do a nice version of it too if she ever recorded it.

BTW,I saw Alison in concert way back in 1987, and it was an excellent show.

it has nothing to do with weight yes of course there is comparison to Dusty but in the context of now when Adele is on top of the world and there are similarites there i was bringing in Adele merely to put this thread into some sort of context by using Adele who has a soulful voice and is succesful NOW

And its importan to not When Duffy and Adele first hit the scene they were dubbed the new amy's so get off your pedestal and stop finding issue where there is none

Moyet was a great singer, but she wasn't screwed by her record company at all.
She had huge hits with Yazoo, and amazing solo success - then she got all "artistic" and wanted to sing songs that nobody wanted to hear.

OMG are you just trying to find fault with me i have explained my intentions you brought up weight.

I'll explain it again Adele has a soulful voice and is a megastar Alison has a soulful voice and in the 80's attained like Adele critical and commercial success for her voice and singing for people who are new or never heard Alison as Adele is big right now and has a big soulful voice and writes great music i used her as an opener.

Not because they wear plus size clothes and don't conform to the supposed normal industry size of skipping meals i wouldn't compare duffy to dusty but Lulu as they have similar voices not because they were both short taht would be stupid and ignorant so again stop creating issue where there is none

Its not the first time i have seen adeles name mentioned with alison moyet..im not finding issue with you, im saying that they have little in common music wise..there are lots of other white female singers with big voices so why do there names keep getting bought up together

Speaking for me Alison Moyet and Adele have not just big but booming soulful voices powerful like Aretha and dusty has a voice like silk in the same vein as dionne wariwick same with amy amazing singers but not as big as either Amy or Adele and until Adele for me it was only Alison with the power of Arethah yet soulful like dusty for me i can see the parallels in their voices.

And as mentioned before both remained unchanged and normal with Success i couldn't envisage Adele doing an amy.

The really strange thing about that clip is that it was done before Adele arrived on the scene. Yet the way she speaks is exactly like the parody done here by KB. Amusing if scary!

Seen her about 3 times in concert and even met her backstage once. Situation by Yazoo is one of the BEST club records EVER and when she is in concert she hardly needs a mic as she has SUCH a powerful and natural and unique voice. Yes she has done SOME duff stuff, but her back catalogue is fantastic. She is also very funny and warm when in concert.

she has won two brit awards for best female artist and was last nominated in 2003. she even had a grammy nomination in 1993. so from the recognition point of view, i think she has been celebrated.

i was really looking forward to the planned new album due this year, although apparently that is no longer happening.

Okay well that was a few years ago now i'm hoping for further recognition to bring her back to a wider audience as she ha sgained sort of cult status and agreed love situation i wonder how many people know the saturdays samples it

And gutted i just found out about it she's becoming a kate bush/sade in terms of releases as in there never seems to be one

And the clip i posted was post 19 think may 2008 so she had had success at that point.
