I am looking for a cheap android 4 that is unlocked to buy. Can anyone point me in the right direction please.

Android 4? There are only two phones that have an official release at the moment. The Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus S.

Carphone Warehouse were selling off the Nexus S for £200, but they seem to have sold out - your best bet would be looking through ebay now.

You might be out of luck since the only current phone that comes with Android 4 by default is the Galaxy Nexus, and it's hardly "cheap" - you'd struggle to get it much under £450 unlocked. You might be able to get a slightly cheaper Nexus S or Galaxy S II and manually upgrade them to Ice Cream Sandwich but it's a bit messy.

There are some cheap Android 4 phones on the way from the likes of ZTE etc. so if you're prepared to wait you will find one, but for now - no.

I wouldn't say upgrading a Nexus S is particularly messy - just turn it on and wait for the update notification to show up.

Look for a second had S2 on Ebay in the nest couple of months as people clear out for the S3 and upgrade it to ICS.

Fair enough. I was under the impression Google had halted the rollout of ICS to the Nexus S, but presumably they have resumed it now? In which case, the Nexus S is probably a very viable option if it can be found...

You might have a point there, completely forgot about that.

No idea whether the roll-out has restarted.
