Motorola Defy - web browser question
Madridista23
23-02-2012
Just got a Motorola Defy and for the most part, quite happy with it. The web browser seems to be a bit of an enigma though as it never appears to close down.

If it's been opened up for a browse at say Google.co.uk and i switch the phone off, when i open up the web browser again, google.co.uk is still sitting there. Is this meant to happen?

Anyone with any anwsers to this? Thanks.

You dont 'have' to close apps down in Android ... its the way Android multitasking works. If its just sat there doing nothing it shouldnt be a battery drain. you can use the back button to close down most apps (rather than just using the home button).

Of course if you have set your homepage to google then it will always show up when you open the browser first anyway

Android used to have all sorts of Apps to 'kill' tasks but with more recent versions of Android they arent really necessary.

By the way the Defy is a very under-rated bit of kit. Bought my kids Defys about 18 months ago and they have both survived well up to now ! good solid phone in my opinion

if you realy want to kill the browser or any other app, you should be able to do this by holding the back button while the app is open.

As for durability, my phone has survived a swim, after leaving it in my pocket, being dropped into a muddy puddle, and various things being spilt onto it.

What android version is your defy running? if its the same android vesion that it came with out of the box you may find substantial improvements in performance if you upgrade to android version 2.3.7 (Gingerbread)
The latest version of Android, version 4.x is currently in the works, however the current early betas dont yet allow you to use the camera
