What has the artist being a 'Chav' got to do with anything?

It's probably because they both have accents like Dickensian street workers.
They've got a few quid now, they can easily afford to get some elocution lessons.
Here's a free one. It's 'something' not 'sumfink'

She is a chav and always will be, you or I can't change that. Learn to let go. Chav has different meanings these days and she fits into the 'celeb chav' bracket. Along with Dappy, Tulisa, Jessie J, Plan B and all those others.
so any young artist with a london accent is a chav?..Its a stupid name for snob's to belittle the working class and you are a snob

I'm far from a snob. And she is no working class hero.

And clearly a relatively (to Adele) unsuccessful snob given his utter refusal to say what he had achieved by age 16. Nothing wrong with being unsuccessful just as long as you don't put down the truly successful due to their perceived social class and then expect to be excused because 'I wasn't being totally serious' . Next!

Why Jessie J though? What has she done that's chavworthy?

I notice you couldn't reply directly. This tells me you're wrong and most likely a chav yourself. Time to go cry in your pillow to Someone Like You.

totally agree with sifter they are chavs deal with it, take a look at some earlier ndubz videos before they got big with the right management behind them serious chavs, Jessie j is a Brit school charity case marketed to the ninth degree to a dumb public who think she is some kind of street role model, whats even more gauling is they are making serious money with minimal education when they are plenty of hard working intelligent people busting their butt for minimal wages. they are part of the record machine which at the moment churns out third rate shite as they know people are gullible enough to buy it. by the way no qualms with Adele she is great at least she has personality and most of all talent.

Exactly. People go on about Adele's "working class roots" and then start crying when she's called a chav. They can't have it both ways.

You don't exactly need qualifications to become a singer. And yes ofcourse there are people busting their asses for there career, but it's not like all of them want to be singers etc. Do you expect everyone to go to university and just get a 9-5 job. The world does need entertainment, we're not all gonna sit in the library frothing at the mouth with excitement. Look at V V Brown, she gave up a place at Oxford for her music career. But sure she's probably just another chav churning out shite

Would the Beatles, Stones, Bowie, Sex Pistols be chavs in today's parlance? Never sure what chavs are - common working class oiks or the unemployed. I know a track suit is involved.

It's nothing to do with being working class in a sense. It's all about how you present yourself. So no they wouldn't.

In the same breath though people berate the likes of Florence for having a privileged backround why if someone has the talent does it matter it's people grasping on to anything to diminish someones talent for no reason other than jealousy and dislike im all for having an opinion when its actually based on something.

And also if your basing it on Accents and regions funny they don't pick on successful scots or welsh or irish people

I didnt say that bcuz u defended Lana...the reason i said that is because its childish to call someone a chav or really outside their name...im still trying to understand as to why u say Adele, Jessie J and other artists are chavs in the first place?

It's like you can never win though. If you got your grades, gone to Uni, and come from a good background - you're getting by on your money. However, if you dropped out from education, and brought up on the bare essentials you're a chav.

Why should be tore down for doing what you love, and achieving so much through it. Adele didn't live a privileged life, but she worked her ass of for her career and she's now moving forward. Yet through all the success she has got, she still remains grounded and remembers her roots. Why shoot down someone who has made something from nothing?

In Adeles case, me and many others class her as a chav because of the way she is acting in public especially recently. I could think of a lot stronger words then chav to use for her but chav is about right here.
There is a diffferent betwen acting the ass which many pop stars do to acting the chav. In fact I dont ever recall Gaga or rhianna (2 artists who you would expect it from) act the way adele has done recently. 2 awards show plus photos all within a week, that a lot of "chaving".
People use the excuse its because she is from London and that how it is but thats crap, my husband is an eastender and would never act like that in public and in fact those fans who use this as an excuse is really a dis on the good folk of London.
My guess is its a sign its all getting too much for her, the success appears to have gone to her head and she does this maybe to let of steam. Selling the number of albums she has plus all the public exposure in such a short space of time is serious pressure, some artists can handle it, others dont.
Its sure gonna be an interesting next 2 years for adele to see just what side of the fence she is gonna fall on. But she really needs to control herself in public a bit more, what I find confusing is where on earth are her management and advisers and why are they letting her continue like this unchecked.

I know if we went back to have to speak in received pronunciation and changing an ethnic sounding name once successful in the media that would be an issue too we now have the freedom to be proud of our roots and not have to hide them and yet your either a chav or pretentious toff.

If the music is good and relatable and they hold themselves well what is the issue i mean people had more sympathy for Amy when she stumbled on the stage at the brits as much as i love her no one called her a chav.

I can't see any difference between the way Adele acts and Lily Allen or Amy Winehouse acted. Were they chavs?

I don't like labels like that, and I think anyone who uses them are quite silly indeed.

Adele may be a chav.
Taylor Swift may be a redneck.
Lana may be the 1%.

But who really gives a shit? It's their music we're meant to judge, not their class.

But when your a fan of the artist its judging them thats part of it, only the people who dont care about an artist and just buy there music for the sake of it are the ones who dont care either way.

Who cares? I'm pretty sure these popstars would be so boring and half as successful if they were all prim and proper, snooty types like some on here would prefer them to be.

I'd say a lot of people who were and are Amy Winehouse fans had a lot to judge the way she lived. She lived a more 'chavier' life than Adele, Lily Allen or Jessie J, however the term was never applied to her. Double standards?

Adele is very kept to herself for 'being a chav'. If I saw a picture of her attacking someone then I may say 'okay she is a chav' but i see no out of control behaviour from her.
