Adele is very kept to herself for 'being a chav'. If I saw a picture of her attacking someone then I may say 'okay she is a chav' but i see no out of control behaviour from her.”

I am not saying adele is a top chav, she is just the latest one so its more in the spotlight at present.
Lily allen, winehouse or JJ have not been in the limelight in the way adele has been.
Apart from when she died I hardly ever saw anything on AW and lilly allen and JJ only in passing here and there, those artists and their music were never in your face in the way adele is.

Firstly lets remember what CHAV means it stands for council house adolescent vermin so do any of these supposed chavs fit into that bracket ?

Lily Allen and especially Amy were always in the tabloids and papers for their behaviour and personal lives so you must have been living under a rock in no way has Adele recieved the level of exposure either of them had and 2006-08 BTB was a chart regular and you couldnt move for her

In terms of music Adele is over exposed yes but in terms of tabloids not compared to others but at the moment due to awards season we are seeing alot more of her

No i respect your opinion, you have an opinion of a chav and you are using Adele as an example. But people are throwing out 'chav' because they do not like the artist.

I just think it's so silly for someone to throw out the word chav to somebody who does nothing chavworthy. The only thing I don't get is how Jessie J has done anything chavworthy.

A wild stab in the dark here but I'm assuming the notion comes from her use of urban slang (''man dem'') in her lyrics?

Well I can't exactly say it's gonna be a word she uses a lot in life. It's a song about being a tough b*tch and proving you can be as tough as one of the guys. It's all hyperbolic. Do you really think Jessie is going to be telling people she's "rolling money like a pimp" or that she wants b*tches on her d*ck? Along with all that, Jessie did write the song in hope of it going to Rihanna...

Hey, i'm not rolling my eyes at the fact she uses the slang, it's the notion that people may throw the chav tag at her for it.

I too dont understand why Adele is considered a chav. Is it just the way she speaks? She was bought up in South London and her accent is very South London. I thought Chav was more dress sense (or lack of) and actions and mannerisms.

Incidentally heard Florence (of the Machine) speak recently, very eloquent. Seems an intelligent lady although jury is still out on her music but its growing on me!

I'd say reverse snobbery is more obvious on this forum and elsewhere than traditional snobbery. People are more likely to criticise Lana del Ray for her 'privileged' upbringing than Adele for being from a poor background.

Adele said in an interview:

http://www.heatworld.com/Celeb-News/...een-pregnancy/
Quote:
“There’s a tough moment in every 15 year old girl’s life where she has to choose between becoming a teen mother and attending The Brit School. At least, according to Adele who claims that if she hadn’t attended the prestigious academy, teen pregnancy would almost certainly have been on the cards.

The North London born singer, whose second album 21 is currently holding tight at Number 1 both sides of the Atlantic claims it was her attendance at The Brit School that gave her the inspiration and motivation to achieve the worldwide success she knows today. Speaking to the News of the World, Adele commented:

"I hate to think where I'd have ended up if I hadn't gone to The Brit School. It's quite inspiring to be around 700 kids who want to be something - rather than 700 kids who just wanna get pregnant so they get their own flat”.

She went on to compare her school to the 1980 hit movie Fame recalling ‘you got people doing their ballet stretches and singers having sing-offs. I'd rather that than someone pulling out a knife!" We think most people would, Adele. Except possibly the cast of West Side Story who opted to combine the two...

Adele also commented “I remember wanting to go to Sylvia Young Theatre School because Baby Spice went there but my mum couldn't afford it.” Quite why Baby Spice with her frequently weak vocals and questionable acting ability should act as a form of inspiration, we’re not sure. But we’re glad it did.”

To be honest, I don't consider any artists as "chavs". Not Adele or Jessie J or Cheryl Cole or Lily Allen. Not even Dappy. I don't think "chavs" have been a part of British culture since like 2007 lol.

I actually do feel Adele is a sensible individual at heart. She shows she can have fun, she can be her own person, but she remembers what her job entails.

I definitely agree, I don't exactly consider any artists as chavs. How can an artist succeed if they are a chav? A chav is a negative thing to be described as, so if you're an outright chav you'll not exactly have any fans. Though in saying that, Cheryl Cole was probably 'chavvy' in the beginning of Girls Aloud and with the nightclub incident, but dare I say it, I think she's quite a respectable woman now, also quite a role model to young girls (despite imo being a crap singer) Many young girls aspire to be like her. She doesn't even have a chavvy sense of dress anymore since she is quite a fashion icon in the UK

Funny enough I'd say many of the examples of 'chavs' are actually role models. Adele has achieved so much. She's even showing everyone that she isn't losing any weight for her career despite people calling her fat etc. Also I think musicwise Jessie J is appealing to people who have been bullied, and that she after it all, she's came out a better person, fun loving life etc.

Is Jarvis Cocker a chav? I remember he behaved badly at the Brits once, I also remember a band called Chumbawamba who throw a jug of water over John Prescott...at the Brits too.
And BTW what is wrong with working at Cineworld? Those sort of jobs are no longer restricted to the working class, middle class people are out of work too and applying for those jobs too.
Lily Allan gets called both a Chav and middle class depending on the bias of journalists.

Alot of majorly influential music comes from people with working class backgrounds

Beatles
Rolling Stones,
Oasis
Sex Pistols

Would these all be classed as chavs?

By the way I see it, chavs are workshy, are you telling me that Adele hasn't worked hard to get where she is?

Also, what is wrong with being working class, not all working class people are chavs, don't be such a snob

with regards to Ndubz, they are wanna be chavs who actually had fairly risch parent/uncles who used to be famous.

My local chavs are all middle class. Chavdom was a lifestyle choice. I've no idea why they chose to dress badly and speak poorly. But that's what they did. More akin to skinheads or punks, rather than a class thing.

Because unfortunately success is reviled in the UK in some ways rather than celebrated.
