Midweek Charts update: Sande edges past Adele for top 2012 sales
Source: MW

Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events has overtaken Adele's 21 to become the UK's biggest-selling artist album of the year so far.

The Virgin release surpassed the XL-issued 21's total this week, having sold nearly 660,000 copies up to the end of business on Thursday, according to the Official Charts Company. Adele's album has shifted around 657,000 copies in the year to date and 4.4 million cumulatively.

Polydor act Lana Del Rey's Born To Die is the third top artist seller of 2012 with Aslyum/Atlantic's Ed Sheeran fourth with + and the Parlophone-issued Mylo Xyloto by Coldplay fifth. However, all these albums have been outold by the EMI TV/UMTV compilation Now! 81 which, with more than 700,000 sales, is 2012's top seller overall.

Sande's album, having spent a fifth non-consecutive week at No 1 last Sunday, is down to three in the midweeks, overtaken by two entries: Columbia/Roc Nation's Rita Ora in first place with Ora and Fiction/Polydor act Elbow's Dead In The Boot in second position. Icelandic band Of Monsters & Men's Universal Republic-issued My Head Is An Animal is currently showing up as a new entry at four, while Paloma Faith's RCA set Fall To Grace drops 2-5. The Top 10 also includes X Factor conetstant Lucy Spraggan's self-issued Top Room At The Zoo climbing 127-7and Alanis Morissette's Columbia debut Havoc And Bright Lights new at nine. Spraggan's track Last Night has climbed 70-6 on the latest midweek singles cart but will rank lower by the time of Sunday's final chart as it is no longer available to buy at leading digital outlets.

Syco act Little Mix's second single Wings has already surpassed 75,000 sales on its way to deuting at the top of the singles chart on Sunday, while One More Tune/Stiff's Sam and the Womp are second with Bom Bom, having debuted at No 1 last Sunday. Rita Ora's How We Do (Party) slips 2-3, while two tracks move into the top five: Interscope/Republic's Good Time by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen climbing 17-4 and the Slamjamz-issued Harder Than You Think by Public Enemy rising 11-5.

What a joke lol...well a number one is a number one, we'll take it

But I can imagine the headlines 'low selling number one' etc.

It wont be the lowest selling #1 and they have done great to get #1 first winners to get #1 with there ''proper first single'' it since Leona (bleeding love) and Alexandra (bad boys) aint they?

I just think people expected them to pass 100k thats all.

Your right.

Im dissapointed but not surprised is all. I'm glad we get 2 proper singles before album. Otherwise it'd be a real mess. IMHO

This book should have been after their win tbh (Matt Cardle released his book after his win, also 1D released a book straight away) It's nothing new.

The thing that caught me in the article it says wings has surpassed 75,000, it didnt specifically say that wings has sold 75k, so when I think of surpassed that means it has sold more the 75k so far right? I definitely can see it hitting the 100k mark but as long as the single has longetivity that should be all that matters. I noticed they are gaining new fans everyday so it can only get better, they are still growing and gaining new fans . So I think 90-100k first week sales will be very good for them.

I can't imagine there will be any 'low sales' comments. Little Mix have done very well. If they get near 100k it will be a huge success for them.

Which means they have sold just over 75k, Probably 75,150 or something like that

On the sales I hope it at least hits the high 90's as I feel it deserves a lot of sales. Maybe I am just being just being biast though haha

Average sales for a #1 in 2012 are about 92-93k.

Top 5 Sales Weeks:
Cheryl Cole - 152,000
Gary Barlow - 142,000
Maroon 5 - 141,000
DJ Fresh ft Rita Ora - 125,000
Tulisa - 122,000

Chances are that sales for Little Mix are tailing off a bit because they've not got the heavy radio airplay of many other #1's. Hopefully after this #1 radio goes for the second single. Plus it'll have an X Factor performance.

Summer 2011 X Factor #1 Chart Debuts:
One Direction - 154,000
Olly Murs - 109,000
JLS - 98,000
Cher Lloyd - 66,000

So this is how they did in last year's summer? Did the sales of their second sales increase with an XF performance?

This Dan Wooton person doesnt seem terribly accurate, does he?

I want their album to do well. I think that gets you more street cred in the long run.

Cher sold a bit more. The others sold less with their second singles (One Direction almost 100k less). But Olly/1D each sold about 140,000 albums in their first weeks. JLS sold 90,000. Cher sold about 60,000.

Its musicweek who deal with the midweeks NOT buzzjacks it just gets posted on buzzjack and let me tell you MusicWeek is very true they deal with the Official Charts and post sales every week that are RIGHT!
from all places itunes play.com physical copies so no its not a estimate but if you want to keep telling yourself that then fine

75,000 units (all but 2,000 digital) by midnight Thursday is hardly "not" selling.

think about it it says on digital sales that they are doing 11k a day so
75 + 11 fri
11 sat
11 sun by 6pm
adds up to 108k so hopefully the end sales will be 100k - 110k

It's not left number on itunes since Sunday...it will be number one. They have more promo next week btw Daybreak on Monday and Loose Women, not sure which day. Also if they reduce the price to 59p...I could see it having a good chart run ( this worked for Stooshe).

Sunday sales only count towards the following week's chart, don't they?
