How long will be the longest reign at UK #1 this year?
It shocks me that we have already had 7 different number ones this year and that so far (ok only 8 weeks in) our longest running single is 2 weeks. Will we ever see another 'Umbrella' or 'Bleeding Love' or will we probably begin to think that 2 weeks at the top is the best you can get?
I think that unless we get a song from 10+ world superstars joining together for a charity 'Domino' may well end the year as the longest reigning song of the year. P.S i did my best not to rant id love to know what everybody else feels/thinks about this -Musicdude10 |

Gotye will be 2 weeks ( although unconsecutive ) this week and will likely have a 3rd week the week after.
I have a feeling "somebody I used to know " could be the biggest selling single this year |

I have a feeling "somebody I used to know " could be the biggest selling single this year It depends we seem to have singles with huge opening weeks i.e 100,000+ so its difficult then to continue like baby one more time a million seller but only two weeks number 1 compared to umbrella ten weeks and barely scraped platinum (600,000k +) same with someone liky you two weeks at number 1 million seller so unless it has small opening weeks and continues to shift slowly i would say 3-4 weeks looking at it objectively. |

Last year Rihanna had 6 weeks at #1 with We Found Love, Adele had 5 weeks at #1 with Someone Like You and LMFAO had 4 weeks at #1 with Party Rock Anthem.
Apart from Somebody That I Used to Know (which will probably be getting its 2nd week at #1 this week), we haven't had any MASSIVE hits like Party Rock Anthem and Someone Like You yet, to be honest. I'm sure something will come later in the year. |

Rather pointless thread as we dont know what songs will be released this year. There is BOUND to be something later in the year that will be number 1 for so long someone will pop up on here and ask if there is anyone left in the world who hasnt bought it

Why would you want something to be number 1 for so long? Even if you like the song it ends up becoming tired and annoying for a while if its repeated excessively.

The last time that there was a different UK #1 in as many weeks was in 2005 when the first 11 weeks of the year had a different chart topper.
The chain was broken when Tony Christies' - Amarillo spent 7 weeks at the top in March of that year. Considering the last #1 to spend at least 7 weeks at number 1 was over 4 years ago in Nov/Dec 2007 (Bleeding Love),I think we're due another long-runner in 2012.Probably during the summer months (June - September,as statistically that's usually the period when long-running #1s hold the top-spot.(Bryan Adams,Wet Wet Wet,Frankie Goes To Hollywood,Rihanna & John Travolta/Olivia Newton John for example) |
