As promised, here is my critique of Alex's 'performance' on 'Let's Dance...', which is strictly my opinion only:

Visually...it looked good.

Dancers...were good.

Alex...mimed well, which I expected from a studio based show on the telly.

The track...I have heard better pop/dance records if I am honest. The chorus wasn't strong enough. There wasn't enough 'lift' with it. For me, Elephant is pretty forgettable. I would give it about a 5/10...and that is being generous.
I speak as a lover of commercial dance and pop.

She didn't ****ing mime!
Surely you heard her. They had the 'oooh' bits on playback and the rest was live.

She was shouting 'are you ready' and 'let's go' throughout the performance, so I don't know why people are saying she mimed...plus she was slightly pitchy as to be expected with the dancing....

Did she? I didn't hear that at all? The mic was messed up and the playback of the melody was FAR too loud.

Before the synth breakdown she shouted 'are you ready' or something....then she did it again later on....it was live...plus when she stopped singing you could here quieter backing vocals in the background....

It was obvious she wasn't miming. There were problems with her in ear monitor as she kept fiddling with it.

It sounds live to me....

I hate to ruin your illusion, but she totally did. She basically 'performed' the 'Radio Edit' - the single - didn't she.

As a general rule, most 'singers' appearing on studio based telly shows mime. It has been done for years.

How do you explain her shouting halfway through the track (see 1:20 of the video), the lack of auto-tune heard on the radio edit....and her slightly pitchy vocals....?

It was live.

Oh come on Zach that is hardly proof....Cheryl shouts 'lets go' during her performances.

And I actually thought it was live, but I didn't hear any sound problems and it wasn't her earpiece she was fiddling with it was her earring.

No she didn't. BUT you'd LOVE to see her mime and fail wouldn't you? Why on earth would she mime, when she's performed it all live as we showed you?

She wasn't miming at all  there were just some problems with the mic I love Alex but I don't like the new song...but I'm excited to hear other songs from her new album just hoping there's less/no autotune

Yes but unlike Cheryl, Alexandra wasn't 'delivering' perfectly in tune vocals whilst doing full on choreography....She kept stopping at the end of lines, was quite pitchy in places....plus we all know Alexandra can sing live and dance (see The X Factor) unlike others...

You can get her acoustic on the single too. I don't think there will be, it makes no sense. You can't have a full autotuned ballad.

Come on Zack, let's lose the excuses. This is not the X Factor now, this is the real world. It is not physically possible to sing properly and dance rigorously at the same time. It is either one or the other. Singers either mime and dance or sing live and incorporate appropriate movement as and when...

Oh dear, just realised you have no sense of humour when it comes to Alex.

Edit: And I did say I thought she performed it live.

It is. But not with a hand held mic. You need a headpiece one.

She wasn't dancing rigorously though was she? She was doing mainly upper body dancing, and most of the time she was just walking and standing....

She wasn't dancing like Britney or something with kicks and jumps etc....

She sounded really live and raw in places.....most pre-recorded 'as live' performances have a tuned/fiddled with sound to them...see this GMTV performance of Alex where she mimed, then compare it to Elephant and it sounds different...

Fiddling with the ear piece is all part of 'the act'. Don't be fooled.

I expected her to mime as it was a studio based telly show, so I wasn't disappointed from that point of view.

GOD. You really are on it aren't you. Destroying one of the UKs best performers....

It was live too, so miming would be very very difficult. And she didn't. Listening back to it now, she's very pitchy in places.

When she can do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8X3YoxQQPWg why would she mime? I'm done with this. Keep smokin' whatever shit you're on. I've seen her sing before my very eyes and it was all live, no backing track, nothing.

No-one is destroying anything....I think certain people can't accept that Steps and certain other crappy pop acts can't cobble a live performance together, but Alex can manage decent choreography and decent live vocals with ease....

Nearly everyone here agrees it's live, and usually when miming singers do it to try to make themselves sound better....Alex was quite off in places...it sounded live to me...

Stop being so ridiculous and shooting down everyones comments that she wasn't miming. You said "This is not the X Factor now, this is the real world. It is not physically possible to sing properly and dance rigorously at the same time".

It is possible, even with a hand held microphone. Beyonce and a number of other artists are able to do it and Alexandra is one of them. She didn't even do that much choreography in this performance. When she was on the X Factor she did routines with a lot more choreography than she did tonight, and she sang at the same time.

And here, she was dancing and singing live...
