Hi All,
Our youngest cat Milly, has this last week gone almost bald/very thin on the base of her tail.
Can anyone put forward any ideas as to what may cause this? And possible ways to sort it? Seems daft to have to spend X amount for a vet to say something like 'Maybe she's over grooming, It'll grow back'
Many Thanks in advance

Whenever mine have had this, it's been fleas, the poo of which irritates them causing them to overgroom.

Thank you for your reply
They both have flea collars on, and I spray everything only 3 months ago after someone at work had them , and they have spot on regular.
Also they haven't been outside for over 12 months due to us having a burst pipe and going into alternative accomodation for 8 months, so just kept them both in. We can't let them out yet due to them doing flood defences on the river behind our house, and I'm scared of them getting hurt or scared off by the heavy machinery out there.

This is either due to a flea allergy (as another poster has said), or it could be due to a blocked anal gland.

If it is a flea allergy, then apart from keeping up with effective
flea treatments every 6 to 8 weeks (Frontline spot-on is good ), your cat may also need a one-off steroid injection to deal with the allergy symptoms..

If it is due to a blocked anal gland you need to get the vet to empty it.

One way or the other your cat needs treatment or it will continue pulling out its fur.round the base of the tail.
