What happened? she had the world at her feet in 2010 but ever since Born This Way her status has been on the decline and now she is just referred to by many music magazines as a bit of a joke artist. I've never known this sort of turn around happen so fast, and so early on, in a pop stars career. I think a small selection of her fan group have also reflected very badly on her.

She really wants to hope her next album and its singles perform better than the one's in the Born This Way era have or else she could just end up being a flash in the pan.

I like Lady Gaga btw so this isn't a bashing thread but we have to be honest. This past year has been a mess for her career wise. Rihanna, Katy, Adele, Nicki, and even more recently Madonna have completely stolen her thunder.

Born This Way album shipped/sold/whatever 8 million copies

Born This Way peaked at #3 in the UK, #1 in the US.

Judas peaked at #10 in the US and #8 in the UK.

The Edge of Glory peaked at #3 in the US and #6 in the UK.

You & I peaked at #6 in the US (and #23 in the UK).

Marry the Night peaked at #26 in America and #16 in the UK.

Not all huge hits but it's not that bad.

Do the fans in that main Gaga thread often slag off users who create posts like this on her? One of the users called gagarules86 has just had a pop at me. Probably in the hope I wouldn't see it but I am in two minds about reporting him/her to the mods. Looks like a bit of a bullys nest in there...

It shows that it's very difficult for her stans to deny this fact and they go mad about it

I wasn't even having a go at her! Still I read these people sent death threats to Kelly Osborne so it doesn't surprise me

I think its because of singers who are coming out with less hectic music like Lana Del Rey and Adele, Gaga is starting to seem kind of mediocre in comparison because the general public dont see her music as "personal" or "deep".

Well I'd agree she's not the big star she was when she came out but to fair I'd wouldn't say she she was in decline eithier I mean BTW was the second or third best selling album of 2011. Her single choices wern't the best though can't really argue with that.

There has definetly been a change in the way the media now respond to her but she hasn't entered in a full backlash just yet. I also agree that new female artists have just made her seem less relevant. Lady Gaga was lucky in the sense that her career started just as the 80s wave and pop music was making a big comeback. Now that has passed she just hasn't managed, thus far, to adapt herself as an artist outside of this.

Judas was such an embarassment of a track. I think because of how desperate it all was, as in please create controversy eg Like A Prayer way, people were just put off by it and it damaged her as her singles after that didn't perform the way anyone was expected regardless of what is or isn't claimed.

Her sales are still extremely good if looked at in isolation, i.e. you don't compare them to Adele's. The only worry I would have if I was Interscope is approx 38% of her current worldwide total came in week 1.

Once the tour kicks off she'll get the attention back.

I think its just that her songs became shite! I loved her first album but ive not liked any of her new stuff and she is actually starting to grate on me she is just a joke now. Plus her fans really are idiots and make it even harder to like her!

i think the focus for her from born this way was the whole album not the singles probably. she went in an artistic direction. this album is her best album artistically. born this way and the edge of glory are mega hits from this era. plus gaga typically gets 2 mega hits an era.

In general, I don't think there's been any sort of noticeable change in opinion on her. The people who don't like her, continued to dislike her and the people who do, continued also. Everyone else in the middle was just largely preoccupied with the "it" girl of 2011: Adele. Not being top dog doesn't mean you're "uncool".

There has been a bit of a negative hyperbole surrounding her online and within some media though. A bandwagon which has many of it's riders seemingly unaware of the actuality of her successful year, preferring to focus on the negative.

You have to remember that places like this are not representative of the general population. In the real world people don't care much about Adele's sales, Gaga's chart positions, who the Queen of Pop is, or Taylor Swift.

Regardless, people are fickle. Gaga need only deliver a brilliant single and most will be forgotten.

I can't really put my finger on it, but part of me wants to say it's because we didn't need a Gaga album in 2011. We had The Fame in 2009 and a further 8 tracks added on to it in 2010. I absolutely love The Fame Monster, but Born This Way just leaves me cold. It's so try hard, so pretentious, so patronising and whilst there are some great tunes on it there's nothing on the scale of Bad Romance or Telephone. She took a huge risk releasing an album in 2011 and whilst she's sold well, she's not really maintained her place at the top. Adele's currently the one with world at her feet. The Fame Monster was in the Top 10 for what felt like forever, whereas Born This Way's barely in the Top 40 at the moment.

So yeah, I'd probably say over exposure. She needs to tour, go away for a while and recapture what she once had. Oh, and drop the awful "Mother Monster" thing.

well they didnt completely steal her thunder but she's still here she would've disappeared after the fame by now. also, its been ages since gaga has been in the top 10 here in america. she hasnt visited the top 10 since i think october with you and i. right now, as you said katy, rihanna, adele and even nicki have the top 10 surrounded. but madonna??? seriously. she only had one song in the top 10 and now its falling apart.

but i think gaga will continue to have success plus she already has proven that shes gonna stay here for a very longtime with the fame monster release. with hits like bad romance and telephone.

for me the comparisons and the all to obvious parallels with other artists is a bit waring especially when you claim your album is the best of the decade mhhhm.

but in a general sense when she first burst on to the scene she was interesting shiny and a little bit new so we ignored her less than stellar music which was catchy now shes shoving the same pretentious mush down our throats without the theatrics or music to fall back on and its a little tedious and tired and also so many more doing better more interesting music

plus zenyatta the fame monster was 2010 she has declined since then the fame monster has no relevancy to her longevity as BTW came after it and the fame monster was released on her first wave of success merely 10 months after the fame in the UK

i'd like to add that katy perry is catching up to her in terms of top 10's. she has 10 and gaga has 11.

She's just sort of "there" now. I won't deny the hype around her in 2009/2010 was INSANE (especially between Poker Face and Telephone) but ever since the Alejandro release she's became so embarrassing and over the top.

I think she's been completely overshadowed by Adele (sales, records, chart positions, reviews), Katy (#1's campaign, videos, personal life in the media), Rihanna (chart positions, controversy, videos, singles success), Nicki (the newcomer) and Beyonce (pregnancy and live performances)..

I think Madonna was mentioned because of the enormous pre-order sales of MDNA which is likely to outsell BTW.
