Madonna has created a world record with MDNA. It topped 53 of the 54 itunes charts on pre-orders alone. This has never happened before..

so you were saying?

She's vile to look at, pretentious, takes herself too seriously and is focusing too much on making some stupid political statement rather than doing what got her popular in the first place - making decent pop music.

I think she's been completely overshadowed by Adele (sales, records, chart positions, reviews), Katy (#1's campaign, videos, personal life in the media), Rihanna (chart positions, controversy, videos, singles success), Nicki (the newcomer) and Beyonce (pregnancy and live performances)..”

good points

I can understand what the OP means. Though as pointed out her albums are still selling big, i do think her cultural and media impact has declined massively.

Go back a year or two, and her every move, costume or performance was mentioned in the papers, on the news, magazines, on talk shows etc. Now you very rarely hear about her, unless you actively want to. Now that crown seems to be on Adele, and a new bread of female singers who are more about the basics of music, rather than the controversy and theatrics.

People like her because she was different and made decent fun pop music but still with meaning on The Fame. She improved hugely on The Fame Monster in terms of music and took her image even further. However on BTW she took her image to far and now looks way way way OTT. Her music is so try hard to be inspiring, controversial ect and has lost that fun sense her earlier music had.

madonna is starting to get overexposed again. i think madonna is gonna have success this year.

um i also think artists like katy perry and rihanna are overexposed musically. maybe even nicki minaj is too.

Its because she never went away. She was just over exposed. If anybody needs 6 months off its her.

Well by the sounds of it she opens the song with a verse from Hail Mary before then singing about bad girls who like having ''fun'' as in sex so typical Madonna but it will probably be banned if the nun stuff for the video is true so I wouldn't hold out on it setting the charts on fire.

The ALBUM and then the TOUR are more important as that is where the sales really count. Madonna has nothing left to prove in regards to number 1 singles.

if she still sticks around for along time she'll be a pop culture icon like britney spears was/is.

i think whatever madonna releases is always gonna be successful. i think this new single will be her real lead single. because i hear people say that gimme all your love was just a promotional single or something like that.

i see songs like just dance, poker face, bad romance, telephone, born this way and the edge of glory being played 10-20 years from now still on the radio imo.

I loved her when she first hit the scene and during the FM era. Then she got very pretentious and then the Monster cult grew and their behaviour put me off. I really like BTW but Gaga got a bit big for her boots and I think people want to knock her down a peg or two

i think her fans were suprised at the move gaga made during her born this way era.

I wouldn't say Born This Way was a flop because it sold a lot anyway. But like others have said, she's kind of been put in the shadow by Adele. Who'd have thought Lady Gaga would be at a huge music awards ceremony like the Grammys and not even be on the stage for any of it?

The whole "what will she do/wear next" has wore thin. She just keeps trying to out-do her last efforts that it'll come off as desperate in the end. Marry The Night was definitely a flop for her in comparison to her songs. The music video was like 2 weeks long, the song didn't even start til nearly 9 minutes in which is a bit crazy if you ask me.

I guess for 2011, it was more about people like Adele and dare I say it Rihanna. You also had Beyonce having a baby which took over the news from Lady Gagas dress sense news topics. Her new album will need to be a huge step up and maybe this time she shouldn't build up excitement too much like she did with BTW.

The Jo Calderone male alter ego character that she kept on doing was to much and didnt work at all..i think she lost a few people with that as no one really knew what to make of it.

I'm a fan but I really didn't like the character. I loved it when he first did the shoot for a Japanese magazine but then when I saw him in live action I really didn't like it. Especially seeing as she sang the VMAs as him.

And she was rambling on for 10 mins talking a load of nonsense and completly lost the audience before she even started singing

I never got how she released songs and then videos came out weeks later and I hate how the videos are about 8minutes long and you have lost interest by the time the music starts. The 4 minutes of babble prior to the music is just pretentious crap

If she comes back with a killer song or three (a la Bad Romance) she will do very well again, I think if she continues in the same vein as BTW singles, like Judas, the title track etc. I think her popularity will dip to a point where she's till successful but nowhere near as big as she was during the months leading up to Born this Way. It depends on her material imo, there's a tiny backlash (which I think will get worse) but the general public won't care so much if they connect with the songs.

Her fans and herself preach about how arty she is, how unique she is, , but when it comes down to it, imo, she is more a corporate business than real 'artist', they took a risk with Born this Way, but in the months leading up to it it seemed as if she couldn't fail with it. If they (her and her team) feel like she's losing her footing they will go back to pop songs in the same kind of vein as The Fame/Monster to try and regain the type of success she was experiencing before BTW. At least that's what I predict is what'll happen.

That said, she is still very popular, not as much as she was before, BTW sold 5.5 million (is it 6 million now?), so I don't believe she has much to worry about.

I agree with someone who said the novelty has worn off. In terms of sales and attention she peaked early in her career and it's all downhill from then on. The same thing will happen with Adele. Not that this really matters as it should be the music that counts but people on music forums who play the numbers game don't see it like that.

The danger of being over exposed I would suggest. People get sick to death if you aren't careful. Adele could follow next to because she is everywhere.

I love GaGa's Fame Monster. I liked her Born This Way, but the rest, not so much. She needs to come back with a strong album after a break from the spot light.

Her next album will be vital. It won't be make or break as her huge fanbase will lap it up but in the eyes of critics and casual fans if she doesn't come up with something as good as TFM then interest in her will really wane and if she overhypes it again people will just end up disappointed
