Somehow I'm not surprised, Yasmina always seemed a restless person, the fact she owned her restaurant and gave that up for The Apprentice, just to get up the duff a year later...

So the company were left in limbo for a year expecting her to come back, and then almost at the last moment told them she wasn't coming back after all.
I've known a few women do this myself and it always strikes me as extremely selfish - I suppose the Amstrad empire can survive keeping a post open for her, but smaller companies really suffer from being kept in limbo like this

Would it have helped the company if she had gone back to work for a few weeks before going on maternity leave?

It certainly doesn't help the company when you're going on maternity leave twice in as many years, right after you've gotten the position in the first place. That's quite disrespectful towards your employer who gave you the much sought-after job in the first place, and it makes both the show and Yasmina herself look like a complete joke.

Tom's never worked for Lord Sugar, rather they're co-owners of a business.

Completely agree - but I always thought Yasmina was a dodgy winner, anyway.

Lord Sugar has very strong views on this subject, which I can well see him repeating in public now that Yasmina has quit her job.

She should never have won in the first place. Very poor choice of winner.

she really should have got fired after that cosmetic pricing balls up with sandlewood (still an all round classic wot with the indomitable Mr Hewer "well I leave you with that") bit like this first episode, uber better product fails to win. At least Shuggs didn't go down the well fire the PM road for a good change.

I completely disagree, I thought Yasmina was a superb winner. She wasn't flashy and didn't showboat, she just got on with the task at hand, and apart from that epic sandalwood disaster, was consistently strong throughout.

I agree, I thought Yasmina was the rightful winner and I expected her star to rise fast at the Sugarcompany.
I'm quite surprised how things have turned out, but not half as surprised as I am when it comes to Stella!

As much as he was dullsvile utterly surprised Shug didn't travel that road. Overall Yasmina was very good, just...sandalwood, oh and crap brusetta (sp).

What is it with the sell em cheap stack em high that Sugar doesn't say "Yeah you won.. but in a shistter way one of you are going rather than the quality product - even if it is less profit - still profit with integrity"

Ah well, one day.

Yasmina was perfectly within her rights to have children. Who can say when they will fall in love and want to start a family?

If anything is dodgy with The Apprentice it's the fact that all the winners have left.

Have you ever seen any of the products Alan Sugar has sold over the course of his career?

Not as much as being the accountant and wondering how Claude Littner was able to get hold of her accounts - a public document.

Of course she was 'within her rights.' But that's not what successful business people concentrate on - being within their rights. Or not being able to help falling in love. This is hard-nosed cuthroat business and Alan Sugar has 'a right' to expect that anyone who enters has thought their career path through carefully. Yasmina is a terrible role model for women and should really have done her growing up before she entered the show

You must be one of those people that watch the show as if its a factual representation of business as opposed to what it really is - an out and out entertainment show almost veering into soap operatics
Your insightful thoughts on what successful business people concentrate on did make me laugh though so thanks for that.

How ridiculous. What an unbelievable response. With views like this it's no wonder women still struggle in the workplace. It's not a woman's fault she has the babies. Nor should it be held against them.

Yasmina is not an awful role model for women. Women in this day and age have the right to choose and do so. Just because Yasmina was on some TV programme does not mean she should not have a personal life. If she has chosen to start a family, that's her business. Good luck to her and to other women who dare to start a family.

Well it's certainly not the employer's fault, or those that are left covering for them either. Employers recruit someone for a job because they have a vacancy to fill NOW, not when the mother deigns to return to work. It's not surprising that women still face prejudice.

In this day and age employers have to accept that women can go on maternity leave or leave the company when they have babies. That's the law. They are entitled to do so. It must be a common occurance in the workplace. Yasmina was perfectly entitled to leave. It is not women's fault that they are the ones who have babies and quite rightly there is employment law in place.

As for the job, I think Apprentice winner, Stella English, who rightly or wrongly is taking Sugar's company to an employment tribunal and was told 'there isn't a job', was earning more than her line manager and was dropped after a year's contract says it all.

The employer can choose, so why not the employee? The Apprentice is a TV show and nothing more. Like I said before out there in the real world along with other women, Yasmina has the right to choose. Despite winning The Apprentice, she has the right to a private life of her own choosing.
