You've got a point there S & E. They probably felt insincere because Louis chose the song and they know it's not what they would normally sing to bring out their potential.

Dont know if this will make sense but the whole charm of Oasis and their songs is that they are a good old working class bunch of lads who are living the dream of every pub rock band. Its their rough edges that make them work. Doing a middle class, operatic version of their songs just doesnt work imo.

No need to apologise on the last point, it makes sense to me and you are spot on. I would like to hear them sing one of the Queen classics if Louis has to go for the pop route. At least then we might get a true measure of how good they are at this type of stuff. (apologies for not being more eloquent here)

I have no personal grudge against them, I've tried to make this clear, In almost every post, I've said I find them to be excellent singers, and I've said they seem like nice people.

If anyone believes there is some hatred on my part, I assure you it's in the mind of the person who assumes so.

Being careful not to tread on any toes, I think sometimes intense support for something, can often make any criticims of the affections of their worship, seem more personal than they actually are.

It's only in the minds of a minority hardcore element of G4 supporters that I actually hate G4 or something....not in my mind.

It's only a trash TV show.
I don't take it half as seriously as some appear to do.

How can you really beleive I have some sort of vendetta against G4, when I say things like Louis is a pug-faced little goblin, or I ask if Noel Gallacher will punch Louis for me?

Yes, it is a sort of campaign against G4
But it's fun.
I think it's justified because it's a backlash into all the fawning over G4, as though they are so obviously superior and beyond criticism.
I could do the same with someone like Verity. But that's too obvious and she's an easy target. What would be that interesting about stating the obvious?
G4 are quite popular, so to me it's more appealing to pick out their faults, that not so many people may be aware of, due to them being popular.
It's easy to criticise what's not popular..there's no point, if most people believe in those criticisms anyway. What's the point of preaching to the converted?

Just about all my criticism of G4 has been around their treatment of songs, and also the way they are performed.
Yes, when they usually perform, they do look smug and self-satisfied, they look complacent.

What they do on X Factor, I do happen to think is "rubbish".
That's my opinion. So far, I just haven't appreciated what they've done up till now.

There is really no need for you to judge what my motivations are by assumption. You only have to ask....but don't make assumptions about me on a public forum. It's just not nice.
I don't think you yourself have said anything too bad, but I would appreciate it if you will stop trying to second guess who, and what I am like, and posting it. It's not necessary, and can end up getting nasty.

I have to try to start a thread with a reasonably strong post, otherwise it's a pointless exercise, and there is no content for anyone else to discuss.

Whatever they do outside of X Factor is besides the point. I judge them on what I watch on the show.
I don't rate what they do with music on the show. And that's the bottom line.
You may like to think I have passionate anger towards them, but that just isn't true. My whole point is that they do the opposite, they dilute emotion into blandness.

Much as you would like to try and make judgements about me, and feel the need to state your feelings about me on a public forum. I ask myself why you feel the need to do this. Then I ask myself who is getting more carried away with partisan feelings....you or I?

I don't make any personal assumptions about someone who likes G4. That's their choice. it's not a problem to me in the slightest.

But my opinion does seem to be a problem to some.

A post last night did get to me a bit. It was just a personal attack. But DS were kind enough to remove the post, for which I appreciate.

My post at the start of the thread was primarily about the choice of songs Louis is giving G4.
Some people may want to try and read more into it than that, but it should be clear where my criticisms are to some people.

In fact, most of my criticisms of G4 have been pretty much about the material they perform, and how they perform it.
Anything else is just about caricature mickey taking. After all, it's not a show to be taken that seriously.

Like I said at the start of this post, I give them every chance. As I do with all of them.
Maybe they may do something I really like.
You don't know me, so you are not qualified to know how I think, you do not know me. And you are certainly not qualified to know enough so as you can publicly broadcast your feelings about me on a public forum.

I like G4, but tonights choice of song just illustrates for me that it's difficult to know where they are headed. Should Louis keep choosing mainstream songs for them to try and 'make their own' or should they be given material more suited to their classical genre? (Supposing they are still around after tonight that is).

I feel Louis and his team are trying to put G4 into a place where they will appeal to as many people as possible, and it's not working. Surely it would be better to showcase them as what they actually are, and stop trying to make them into something they can't be?

I have a feeling that Louis is scared of picking songs for them that he feels will risk them looking predictable, and singing what you'd expect them to sing.
So to compensate for that, he tries to make them as "different" and "unique" and "novel" as he can.

Going too far in the opposite direction, if you see what I mean.
Is "overcompensation" the right word I'm looking for here?

I think fear on Louis' part may have a lot to do with it. Maybe a song like "Barcelona" or something, scares Louis into thinking that the type of viwers who watch X Factor won't accept that kind of thing, as it's what they may expect anyway, and aren't the type of people who would buy that stuff.
(Trying to imagine how Louis might be thinking here, not necessarily my opinion)

There are a few songs that they could sing well ( a couple of Queen ones come to mind), having said that, it's not just about their voices, it's the whole vocal style, the diction, delivery etc. It is what it is and trying to pretend it's something else makes them looks silly at the best of times. If the public are ready for classical singing, then show it as it is and stop trying to dress it up as something else.

I agree that a Queen song would have been more appropriate if Louis looking to mainstream them. I already said this in an earlier post. At least we'd know if they qualify in this area. Otherwise leave the guys to do their own thing Louis.

Well, you seem to believe that I have some sort of personal vendetta against you, and I haven't said anything nearly as inflamatory as you have about G4!

Let me make it clear AM, once and for all, that I do NOT have any personal feelings about you, my comment that it seemed to me that you had already dismissed G4 out of hand was based on my interpretation of the tone of your posts, and the fact that you had already decided that tonight's performance would be 'rubbish' before you heard it. And I thiink I was quite fair in saying that.

My comment that G4 had stirred up passion in you was a bit of a joke based on the effort you have put into voicing your opinions on this forum. No nastiness intended whatsoever.

I cannot understand why either comment would warrant such a defensive response on your part. If I am wrong, by all means correct me, but all posts are subject to interpretation, as we are not talking face to face all any of us can do is respond to what we read, this is surely what forum posting is all about.

Personal opinions about your comments, yes. The two things are entirely different.

They're like the cheese buffet on the menu...you don;t like anything else and you know you like cheese...but once up at the buffet table you find it's a load of exotic looking cheese with holes and blue bits....you take a sample of a few bits and it tastes like rubber....Do you risk a few bits knowing that you might actually like it, especially on the right surface (for the sake of the anology let us assume the right song in the right cracker) or do you turn up your nose and try to steal someones chocolate mouse......
