Our house cat Charlie never shows muchinterest in the world outside, but a couple of weeks ago a nice ginger/white female has been coming round and Charlie showed a good deal of interest. He would prowl around the house crying and wait by the back door.
Then on Thursday morning he saw his chance while I had the kitchen window open a few inches. Up he jumped, pushed his way through and was gone.
I was frantic. He had never been out before and I was convinced he would never find his way back.
No sign Thursday or Friday and nothing today, despite several sweeps of the area. Until tonight at about nine o clock......
I was in the back bedroom when I heard a faint cry, but as there are a few cats around here l wasn't going to pay it any attention, but something made me go outside and check.
Nothing, probably next doors cat Rocky wanting to be let in. But another little call made me look a bit harder, and there on the wall was a black cat. Bah, just Rocky. But I gave a chch call and he came toward me and let me pick him up, but I was still convinced he was Rocky as he felt so light, not big and heavy like Charlie.
When I went to put him on the neighbour's wall, he wouldn't let me go and I began to feel the first surge of excitement. Could this be our Charlie? I took him inside and looked for Rocky's little bald patch. No bald patch, and this cat had enormous back claws, like Charlie's. Then he started licking my face, one of his specialities.

So he's back, lighter and smaller but fine. He's wolfed down a bowl of Whiskas and is now having a good wash.

I suppose this is a bit of a non story, especially when some cats go walkabout for months or years, but we are so relieved to have him back that we had to tell someone. Now we can sleep instead of listening for every little noise.

Great to hear that Charlie is home safe and sound.

I've had three cats that have done exactly the same thing. They are a worry!

I thought this was going to be cat hate thread!

I'm glad your Charlie is back, safe and well! There's nothing better than being reunited with your 'lil bundle of fun purring in your arms and the world is right again

Think of it as a good thing. Now if he decides to go for a roam again, you can rest assured he knows his way back.

One of mine got out of the window and went missing, Found him 5 days later, crying under a bush at the back of the house, skinny and covered in ticks. Hes back to normal now but we're very careful of the windows.

And to think, Charlie used to say never to go away without telling Mummy first. Pft - practice what you preach!

Seriously - Glad your cat is fine

Very glad he's back. Now get him to the vet's and have him de-knackered. That will stop any wanderlust.

For sure, my lad of a cat was heading this way until he got the snip, now he's much happier and content and when he does get out its never for longer than 20 minutes to half an hour, he knows where he's well off

I love my girl cats dearly but they're not a patch on my greatly missed boy cat.

We have several black cats around here and all look the same at night! I'm not sure how much weight he lost but he was noticeably lighter and looked smaller.

Euan - he's already ball-less.

You can't say that anymore! "Hello, is that Trevor Phillips? I think I've got another one for ya."
