In my honest opinion, I think she has one of the best voices in the UK and is extremely talented!

I know she has had her fair share of controversial moment (cue the "OK.com" comments), but she is generally a nice person.

I have a few theories

1. She is black, confident and talented. That's generally a negative thing in the UK. (Similar to Misha B on X Factor)

2. The fact she beat JLS back in 2008! Could it be that so many people are still holding a grudge that she beat JLS to the winning spot? This could be it!

3. People confuse her confidence with arrogance- Could it be that people thinks she is getting "big for boots", when actually she is just grateful to be doing the job she loves and doesn't hide it, which annoys people?

This is why I think Alexandra really needs to hurry up and get to America where she will be much more appreciated! The UK really doesn't know how to look after their talent, as seen with cutting Adele off at the brits!

I didn't know she was hated, but its definately (3) It's the fact she acts like she's mariah carey, proper diva style when in fact shes pretty ordinary (just a decent singing voice like Leona Lewis and thats about it). I doubt she'll make it big in America (her voice isnt distinctive enough and there are so many others who sound just like her), in fact I think her time is up over here unless she comes out with a BIG song.

Its the same with the vast majority who come from the X-factor process, have a couple of years of success and then its down the toilet because they havent got any decent tunes, ultimately thats what gives a music artist longevity in the music industry when all the hype has died down.

ah. Disgree totally. America doesn't churn out contraltos on a massive scale to start with. You shouldn't bring XF into it, as its not needed. Alex and Leona have more than average voices. I love Misha B, but she had an average singing voice. Same for Sophie Habibis and Amelia Lily. Potential, but average now.

And just because they have good singers doesn't make them all any good. I don't know of any American singers who suit (bar Gaga and Beyonce) electro and acoustic music very well; and being able to dance very well at the same time as singing well. She also has a single out next month that she performed tonight on Let's Dance.

Katy Perry and Rihanna can't sing very well and have 18 #1's between them, so that obliterates your argument on that side. Alex has the one thing the others don't (bar Gaga and Beyonce) and that is genre versatlity. Along with Beyonce, Alex has the ability to sing r&b, pop, electro/dance, lend herself to a hip-hop track (with swagger), soul and adult contemporary; whilst not sounding odd in them.

Having seen her live on tour, she's more than average; I can tell you that. And it showed, even though her label didn't splash out on her tour budget, the special attraction was her, whereas compared to Leona's tour (I got her tour DVD), Leona's voice was great, but she was very stiff (she didn't need to dance, but tried and it didn't work entirely) and she had a massive budget on dancers and a set etc. The theme of it was great though. We'll see. She has more potential than most to break America (1D (#9) and The Wanted (#4) have had top 10 itunes hits in the USA and are not the best vocalists. If they can get up there, then so can she.

And in reply to the OP, it's #1 + #3. And the qualities of #1 (plus the fact she's been successful - compare her sales to those of XF 2010/2009) combined with the situation of #3 means people (especially in England) will not like you. If she were quieter, then people wouldn't have an issue. Alex is not Adele or Jessie J, she can't get away with saying silly things or swearing, the industry and the world for that matter has a very serious double standards policy. And IMO she should be as loud and carefree as she wants. The girl can sing, dance and oozes soul when she performs. And that's all that matters; she gets the job done.

It is neither of your theories, many people don't like her simply because she, as a person, is nauseating.
I've never seen a more irritating woman on my screen during interviews and appearances! She actually angers me!

Ah, don't start this. As it won't end well. It's not the colour of skin, but the qualities and connotations we are referring to. JLS are a boyband, and so teenage girls see red. Try and talk about a female. That's the point. It isn't JUST because of how she looks. We're referring to the media always talking about her looks (like there is anything she can do about it).

I think her biggest problem is that she came after Leona. Because Leona was hyped up as the next comming of Christ, any other female vocalist was always going to be looked at in a negative light and compared unfavourably to Leona, especially if they happened to have a similar style i.e big voiced diva.

Possibly because she has no "va va voom". She is a decent vocalist but does not have much of an image which unfortunately is mostly what you need.

Yeah. She did get that 'not as good as Leona' tag. Which was ridiculous, because one is a mezzo soprano and the other is a contralto. And so neither could do what the other could do vocally. (Alex can sing very high, but not how Leona does for obvious reasons).

What do you mean by image? I think she's got the big vocal on pop records, whilst being able to dance and well. So good vocal, good dancer. I think that's her 'image'. But most don't have images so to speak, ie Jessie J. A jack of all trades. I personally don't think image is the most important thing, most people buy songs because of the record itself, rather than the artist. BUT I suppose an image helps shift an album (Adele).

The OP isn't playing the 'race card' which is an offensive term...but it is an issue, as the Misha B thing showed. I don't think she's arrogant. But each to their own. I think she's very nice, funny and generally crazy. But if that's horrible, then it is, but I know she's charitable, a loving person (and still crazy).

Firstly, I think this needs to be said from the get-go. None of us have met any of these people, none of us know any of these people, so none of us are really in a position to comment on what they are really like as people, in my view.

Now, why is she 'not liked'? In my opinion, I would simply put it down to...[LIST][*]The X Factor tag. No-one takes reality tv people / tv talent show people seriously. They have no credibility at all. Shows like The X Factor/Britain's Got Talent are just vehicles for Cowell and ITV to make money, that is it...and the majority of people know it. For this reason, it all feels contrived and not genuine, which is in total contrast to what Gareth Malone (a genuinely talented musician) does on The Choir.
[*]The wider public (the majority of the population outside the X Factor bubble) don't like 'singers' fast-tracked to 'the top' at the expense of those who put the hard work and hard graft in.
[*]The 'Pop Music' market is flooded with singers who can 'sing'. The trouble is, so much of it is the same. It isn't different or distinctive enough...and therein lies the problem. For me, the X Factor churns out 'more of the same' and it is just dull and boring.
[*]Whether I buy a song or not is determined by whether I like said song or not because it is something I am going to listen to. It is totally irrelevant to me who the singer is, what they look like, what religion they are, what their sexuality is, whether they dance or not, what clothes they wear or what their make-up is like. All Night Long is a good pop song, but it could be sung by anyone for all I care. I like it because it is a good song, not because it is 'sung' by Alex.[*]She also appears to take herself way to seriously. The X Factor is just a bit of fluff, that's all.[/LIST]

Obviously because of their whiteness the UKKK loves Cardle, McCElderry, and One Direction.
It's odd bringing it down to the colour of someone's skin rather than accepting people might not like someone cause they're shot.

Mostly down to disgruntled Leona loons who are angry their precious "amazing" diva hasn't done as well as predicted.

Thinking back, ABBA were initially doubted as they had broken the Uk market on the back of Eurovision... it was only with time and brilliant material that they earned the respect of the UK music-buying population.

Only difference is that the songwriting back in the 70s was MUCH better - and so you had stables like RAK who released a lot of numbers that have become karaoke faves and floorfillers.

It's nothing to do with her being Black, Leona Lewis, The X-Factor. Plenty of black females are doing well in the charts right now, I don't see how Leona Lewis could hault someone's career.. and the country seem to love the likes of Olly Murs, JLS etc.

It's just to do with the fact her personality is either to your taste or it isn't. The X-Factor stint didn't help and to this day I still see people digging at her for 'ok.com' - either way it hasn't stopped her having success in this country so she can't be disliked that much or people wouldn't buy her music.

Its because Leona did so well with her debut album, people was saying Alexandra was going to be huge and be the UK's Beyonce and overtake Leona. This didn't happen.

Then she came on XF as a judge and was a little bit cocky and annoying. A bit too in your face.

Having said that I do wish her the best, she is one of my favourite contestants in XF history!

Agreed- however, I was referring to how ABBA was seen *at the time* back in 1974-1975, before they really hit with Mamma Mia and SOS.

From what I gather, Ring Ring was rereleased after Waterloo won Eurovision, and didn't do all that well over here. They basically beat out expectations at the time - foreign Eurovision acts were seen as one-hit wonders generally.
