I particularly was referring to the media and referencing her looks frequently. And they seem to single her out A LOT. They've been doing it since 2009.
they single out everyone, thats what the media does. You're a Alex hardcore fan so your probably reading more about her than about other artists. Seriously, she aint being singled out ALOT by the media, i dont hear about any racism or anything like that, its more her diva-like attitude when talking to the press thinking she's the next Mariah. Anyway, come next year no one will be talking about her, new album with flop, be straight in the bargain bucket at HMV and she'll be working back at Tesco's by christmas time

No I wasn't refering to Alex, I just meant that the media and society see light and black skinned black people differently in general, particlarly women. As I said I was just being Academic. I've already said the reason I feel is because she came out after Leona.
I don't believe any of this for a second. It is all excuses in my book.

her new song elephant I would have told whoever thought giving her voice the Cher Treatment to naff off.

Her voice is much better than what they have done to it in Elephant.

Listen to this acoustic version. It's the B-Side to the single and it's way better imo...

I agree. Everyone in the public eye gets the same treatment. Kate Middleton and her sister anyone? Kylie? Lady GaGa? Fearne Britton?...Cheryl?...I could do on...

Well you wouldn't as it doesn't concern you in a negative way.

I don't get where people get this idea that she acts 'like a diva like Mariah Carey', where's the evidence of this? Being excited in interviews etc s no a trait of a 'diva'.

There is no evidence. She does loads of charity work, always has time for her fans and is always bright and happy....

In fact you NEVER see her sad in interviews, she is totally grateful and happy for what she has achieved....she isn't ever miserable in interviews or to fans etc, she always has time for them and spends hours talking to them on Twitter etc....

All this diva nonsense I just don't get at all.....she addresses all the diva claims here.....totally baseless claims tbh...

Let me try to put this positively, I think people prefer genuine singers don't they? With so many of them, it just doesn't feel 'real'. Do you know what I mean?

I am not into Leona either because quite frankly, I find her and her music dull. There is just nothing exciting there, in my view.

If you aren't ultra humble, then you are a diva. In the UK there is no midway. I mean people were coming for Beyonce on Daily mail throughout her pregnancy and for going out with Jay Z after giving birth to Blue. You simply can't be confident, sassy and bold. TBH I want Alex to be the same as she is. She's her and I love that craziness about her, I think she's hilarious.

I'm a big fan of Leona, but hey, not every artist is going to please everyone.

Regarding Alex, thing is I went to an intimate gig she did to launch the VIVA music channel and she was really polite, joking around with the audience, and having fun etc. This is why the diva thing annoys me. I remember there was some guy in the audience who had a baby with him and he said something about a family member being ill and she asked her for something. Can't remember what it was but I remember her saying 'Don't worry I'll have that done for you' (you could tell it was something she wasn't really meant to do). Things like that aren't what divas would do.

It's those who don't know Alex at all that think she's a diva. I saw her live and she wasn't at all. She was great, and was funny, and was polite too. I've never seen/heard her be rude, verbally abusive or demanding at all. If confidence is arrogance and bubbliness is diva ish behaviour/thinking she's the best thing since sliced bread/god's gift to music (I still don't get where people get those vibes) then Lord, I'm a diva...which I'm not.

Yes. She's very very nice, and very funny. She was talking to us in the meet and greet for a bit longer than she should've, and her people came in to remind her she had others to see. She was really grateful we all came to the show.

There is no evidence that Mariah acts like a diva either. If you are excitable and confidant, or actually have a personality then that seems to make you into an arogant, big headed diva.

I never got the Mariah diva thing at all, in fact, I think she's far more introverted than people like to believe.

I agree. I should have worded it better. I only mentioned Mariah because Alex was being compared to her.

We all got what you meant, and we're all on the same page. The ladies concerned aren't divas. Merely talented ladies, making a living for themselves and trying to enjoy life. Oh, and have some privacy at that.

I liked her up to a point on XFactor. Really liked the swing week (I think), where she was kind of dressed up in uniform (my mind is hazy), but then there was the Beyonce ridiculousness of her practically falling over and crying. It was, imo, embarrassing and was totally over the top. This is what put me off her, not that she is a "diva". You must accept that people take against people in the media for a great many reasons and personality is one of them, race may be another, but I really think you put far too much emphasis on it only being about that.

She had brief moments to get across her personality on screen, she f****d up by being over the top, this put people off. Why should those people care if she is lovely at concerts they are not going to go and buy tickets to see her.

You say you are like Alex in a lot of ways, personality etc, I really think that you are taking things said about her almost as an insult by proxy.

My point is, you don't really know her any more than the rest of us do, do you? You are just caught up in the whole 'X Factor' bubble. Alex is just another 'singer' who can hold a tune. That is it...pure and simple. To pretend otherwise is naive, in my view.

I do remember a famous Mariah diva moment at live 8, when she finished a song and then asked someone to bring her some water. I remember that got a lot of peoples backs up. Its things like that really that give her this 'diva' tag. I'm sure there are many more examples...
