I've tried to be fair and objective, so what would you like me to say about Alex?
You don't have to say anything. But her fans aren't really obsessive. I was giving examples of those artists who have obsessive and scary (and dangerous) fans.

personally, i thought the whole tom deacon business was a bit of obsessive. her fans taking to twitter send him abuse and complaining to the bbc before hearing the broadcast.

I know nothing about that whatsoever, so this perception that "Alex is being got at" is hugely inflated in my view. Talk about her music and whether you like it or not, that is where it is at, not all the 'reality' fluff that appears to come with it.

i only knew about that incident because of a thread in the showbiz section. like i said previously though, its all pale insignificance in the bigger picture. every artist gets criticised and alex is no exception. her fans should be happy that new music is emerging and she has international plans.

Indeed. My perception is that Jodie Marsh, Kerry Katona and Katie Price get it the worst, in my view...but hey, what do I know?

Whether a singer lasts all depends on the songs released and whether they - the songs - are popular or not...simple as...

P.S. Listened to Madonna's new one...not feeling it I am afraid. I won't be buying it.

there are plenty of singers that get bad press and it goes with the territory. nobody is above criticism in the media. its all about finding the positives in what you enjoy and appreciating that. life is too short to dwell on agendas that are not really any different to the stick other singers face.

that`s not a surprise to be honest, not a lot of people are enjoying it according to posts on here.

It's not poppy / commercial enough for my tastes. It's not Hung Up enough in my view.

I absolutely agree with you. It is almost, if you choose to put yourself out there, etc...

I have to say, I am less inclined to 'check out' the new album because of it's lead single.

she has another single coming out now and there was the ballad from w.e. i wont bore you or others with the off topic details though. i just goes to show not everyone can agree on everything or like the same things. i think alex has a big fan base and they are rooting for her to do well. they should be lapping up this exciting time with new releases, not dwelling on negatives that all artists face.

Rubbish. Many many people buy into the image as much as they buy into the music itself these days. Do you really think the likes of Kylie, Cheryl Cole and to an extent Rihanna would be successful if their images were any different?
then they are shallow.... its the music that matters, not the image. artists thay rely on image are whores, selling themselves, proping up their inferior material. music should be about the music, the material, IF they have a pleasing image then thats a bonus, but anyone who buys music because of the artists image are not music fans, they are idiots.

Oh Zack, I am trying to be patient. Kylie's fans like pop/dance Kylie, they don't like IndieKylie, that is why that period failed. It has absolutely nothing to do with what she was wearing/not wearing, trust me.
true, but kylie got most respect and critical acclaim when she went all 'indie'...

Was it commercially successful though? In the UK, it only sold 60,000 copies...her worst sales to date by a long shot.

I do like 'Breathe'...the europop/dance remix...

oh no, i know and wasnt suggesting it was...but then again 'the best' music is rarely found in the singles chart which have always been at the very basic end of the musical scale.

Your post is hardly worth a response due to you playing the race card. She is arrogant, over the top with a horrible personality - that is clearly the reason.
you cant substantiate this assessment because you dont know her personally and thats the only way you can determine what person she is...shes the complete opposite to all that you say. shes misunderstood to a degree. she should be judged on her talents and nothing else

he shouldnt have said it full stop
it was insulting, degrading, offensive and totally unacceptable. hes not paid by our license fee to degrade and insult
a joke is a joke but this went too far im afraid
Alexandra;s mum got a PERSONAL apology from Radio 1's controller BEN COOPER regarding this which only proves that the comment was untoward in the first place

What was the point in bringing this thread back? Pretty sure we have enough Alex threads as it is.

In my honest opinion, I think she has one of the best voices in the UK and is extremely talented!

I know she has had her fair share of controversial moment (cue the "OK.com" comments), but she is generally a nice person.

I have a few theories

1. She is black, confident and talented. That's generally a negative thing in the UK. (Similar to Misha B on X Factor)2. The fact she beat JLS back in 2008! Could it be that so many people are still holding a grudge that she beat JLS to the winning spot? This could be it!

3. People confuse her confidence with arrogance- Could it be that people thinks she is getting "big for boots", when actually she is just grateful to be doing the job she loves and doesn't hide it, which annoys people?

This is why I think Alexandra really needs to hurry up and get to America where she will be much more appreciated! The UK really doesn't know how to look after their talent, as seen with cutting Adele off at the brits!
That is totally unacceptable and dam right rude!!!! How dare you cast us UK people with yuor comments. Especially the one in which I have Underlined. There are many talented black people here in the UK and they have produced some fantastic stuff.

No it isn't. How many dark skinned (because black people don't look like Beyonce, Rihanna and Emeli Sande) people are topping charts? NONE. And Alex's personality is always used against her, when it isn't for her contemporaries such as Adele, who gets away with cursing on live tv all the time, and you could easily class as rude (I don't btw). There are things about her and her looks (Alex) that none of her contemporaries receive in terms of insults. It's like a revolving door.

Exactly, Adele stuck her middle finger up in front of millions of people and got praised for it! Imagine if Alex had been in her situation and done the same thing!? She'd have been crucified!

I didn't state Black UK singers who are topping the Chart, as I said, There many talented singers and have produced some fantastic stuff . i.e. Chipmunk, Taio Cruz, Tinie Tempah, Dizzee Rascal, Corinne Bailey Rae, right through to the good old Seal, The Real Thing, Billy Ocean.

As for Adele, I think any singer in that position, who sadly got cut off ,would have been prasied for doing what she did did whether that had been Adele, Alex or any other singer.

As for Alex, I think she is a great singer ))))

that's part of what people love about Adele, she's just herself and doesn't give a shit. The few times iv'e heard AB interviewed it's like she's a contestant on the Apprentice...far too eager to please, it's a bit off-putting tbh
