I think what with Jennifer's accident, the low ratings and now this, the show might not be back next year.

I don't watch this show and every time I see any kind of news on it it's always either "X eliminated from DOI" or "X hit in head with blade". Why do these people do the show? It doesn't sound fun to me

I think its only a matter of time before a serious accident happens. The routines are getting more and more risky because the show is older now so needs to push new ground to stay fresh. The question is, is it worth it? just an inch either way and Matt's eye could have been taken out here.

Ooh she could have had his eye out

It says Matt is expected to dance tonight, so it isn't as if the show is disrupted, just adds to the excitement I guess.

Holy crap, Pip is going to have an orgasm describing that one. It looks horrifc, poor Matt.

Kind of agree that because people are now expected to be so much better from the off, it's getting riskier. I do think it's the hardest reality show on TV, which makes it worth the winning, but I have been worried about pros getting seriously injured for a while now. Who was it who got their thigh cut open?

That was my first thought

Poor Matt. That looks awful.

It looks awful - another thing for Pip to boast about - he said on "this morning" during the week that no one on Strictly had ever kicked themselves on the head- well maybe if they had a 5/6 inch blade on their feet they might manage it... idiot...

We have reached the stage this year with DOI of actual bodily harm happening !!!! Thats two sliced heads so far......!!!

I think the sound of the death knell is already audible. I for one feel in spite of all the changes, both to the judging line up, the gimmicks along the weeks, like making them skate on their own to skills.... it's had it's day.

I would not be shocked at all if this was the last year of DOI. ITV would need something to fill the January to March slot, and I am sure something less physically dangerous could be found easily.

DOI has had seven seasons now............the first three being the best of all.......with a slow slide downwards since then. When you have to mix things up a lot, it's a real sign of desperately trying to keep the thing going to me.

I wonder what would have happened had Jennifer's head cut been far worse, of if that blade had hit Matt's eye !!. As it is, they are two pretty nasty injuries. Insurance premiums to cover the show could treble - and is it worth it.

This is the first year, I have just tuned in out of random curiosity to the results show and completely ignored the main show. Could not sit through it at all any more.

Once again the press are having a field day at some blood and guts, and I dare say the producers of the show are loving this! I find this obsession with injuries pretty sick, and its especially annoying as Matt himself seems to making light of it. The show must go on and all that!

As much as its good to watch, they really need to stop with the risky lifts, its only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt. Its not so bad when the males lift the females, because they can control their skates, but giving skaters like Jorgie, who haven't been skating that long, big lifts that really risk the pro's, its not fair.

That looks nasty. I'm maybe in the minority but generally I'm still enjoying DOI overall.

I wonder if this will affect Jorgie's routine tonight..when you fear something happening that hasn't happened yet, its not too bad, but with Jens accident, and her getting Matt in the face, its all becoming a bit more serious.

Just noticed Phillip has tweeted it, thought he'd have mentioned it earlier knowing how he loves it!

That's my worry too... Matt seems the sort who won't let this get in the way of a good performance, if anything he'll probably make a joke of it. Jorgie however may still be upset about it and scared of doing it again. I hope the move is taken out of their routine!

Yeah I agree about Matt, he'll be fine, but I think that move will definitely scare Jorgie if its still in there..hopefully its taken out!

I'm enjoying the show too.

Don't need all these risks and twists though. Poor Matt. Hugs to him. xx

I'm guessing a voting bump for Jorgie tonight then.

She gets away with a lot because she can do all the tricks and her routines make her look better than she really is. I wish that all of them had been made to do the solo skating as I really feel this would have show up those who are good skaters and those who are just about the bells and whistles.

It was inevitable this kind of thing would happen in the bid to boost ratings by adding stunts which celebrities should not be doing. The one season I really enjoyed was when Ray Quinn won as here we had a winner who was capable of skating and interpreting music beautifully and gracefully and certainly didn't need stunts to achieve a great routine. In fact I can only remember one overhead lift he did in the whole series (when he achieved maximum score). Since then the series seem to be more about circus tricks on ice going from one stunt to another. I am enjoying it less and less tbh

I remmeber a lot of complaints the first (Only?) year when they did this in the US... All the zelebs complaining about how dangerous it was... not sure whether they still do it what with all the litigation they delight in over there... Yep this dangerous sport is... dangerous

Most likely the insurance premiums will rocket and maybe make it not worthwhile... only ITV can decide that...

BTW: For anyone who did not see Scofe talking during the week, the reason we never see him on the ice is because he is not insured for it... Sure that could be remedied if they wanted him there...

errmmm They were lucky years ago when 'safe hands' Seaman dropped his partner ... and anytime a male zeleb attempts a high lift... You wouldn't get me being lifted by some of 'em... well none of 'em really... happy to do my skating all on the level with the ice thanks very much...

They have always done difficult tricks - will have to wait until I see it but it sounds like Jorgie is doing the neck spin which other female celebs have done that over the years. This year is no different but they have just been unlucky. Cheggers got injured when he caught a top pick just skating around.

the wording of his tweet came across to me like he was relishing the gore and shock value of it and the fact it gives a "sensationalised" story for the show

Quote:
“Phillip Schofield ‏ @Schofe
So last night during a lift @themattevers was sliced in the face by Jorgie's blade. He was taken to a specialist cosmetic surgeon to be..

Phillip Schofield ‏ @Schofe
stitched up. He's ok, will probably skate tonight and has 2 black eyes and a very fetching splint on his nose! http://yfrog.com/nu7dnzhj”

I used to like him on twitter but I now find him full of his own importance and he seems to like to mock and attention seek out of other's misfortunes a lot

I also find a number of his tweets in bad taste .... I remember when he was getting a few name calling tweets from an obvious twitter "troll" and he responded to it with a tweet implying that the guy was gay, doing so in a way that implied that being gay was something to be mocked and laughed at for and a negative thing ....

Also a lot of his tweeting about getting his daughter to meet One Direction comes across as bragging and whilst of course he can obviously pull strings and is in the position where his family can do such things, I don't think it's always necessary for him to tweet in the way he does about it as it just attracts negative tweets etc from those who aren't in a similar position.

Anyhoo ... back to Matt's accident .. lol, ... To me me the show has become more and more about the tricks and less about the actual skating and "dancing" so I'm not surprised there are so many accidents .... the celebs aren't experienced enough to cope with some of the intracacies .. to me Jorgie comes across as a bit of a "frantic" skater who, whilst pretty good doesn't have much control and is too "gung ho" with her approach so I'm not surprised something like this has happened ....

Hahaha!! So true!

Regarding what people are saying about this possibly being the last series, I disagree. The show has always been dangerous and I think it sort of thrives on the danger element. There have been really bad accidents in the past, worse than this year's anyway. Besides I think the new judging panel is much more popular so I don't see why they'd axe it after this year, although I'm not aware of how many viewers it has pulled compared to the other series.

Am I not right in thinking that the difference this year tho is that the professionals are getting injured more now? yes, the celebrities hurt themselves before because of falls etc. but more seem to be cutting/dropping their pro partners because of the obsession with lifts?

Cant see how it will affect Jorgie much, she just doesnt understand the whole danger thing. Matt had just warned her to be more carefull with that move and she obviously didnt pay much notice to him and now he gets his face sliced open as a reward, he may not be my favourite but I wouldnt have wished that on any of the pros.

Poor Jorgie .. i hope this doesnt knock her because she is fantastic .. although i have to say this year has made me the most nervous .. i feel sick every time i watch someone skate !
