I want to get rid my old broken freeview box, I tried offering free to anybody on fb but had no interest. Anybody know of anywhere I can give it to (preferably a charity). I live in Sudbury, Suffolk.

why would a charity (or anyone) want a broken freeview box?
simply bin it (responsibly).

Why would you think someone would be grateful of a broken device? Are you dumb or something? Take it to the local tip. Jesus, is that not just common sense

Just think, somebody may want to fix it up or they may want to strip the working parts of it. How bloody wasteful you are.

With new ones available for a tenner upwards I doubt it.
Bin it.

considering the cost of a new freeview box is so low, the cost of repairing one would be far higher than the cost of simply just buying one.

take it to the dump for recycling, that's not wasteful.

Aren't you the least bit embarrassed that you keep digging yourself a deeper hole? Go on then, post a link and let's have a look at them.

There are recycling charities but not in the way you think. There are those that take old PCs, IT gear, telephony equipment that is still working but past its prime in the UK and export it to 3rd world countries where it can still have a useful life. An old broken Freeview box....I don't think so. Many UK charities don't want the legal hassle of dealing with used electrical goods full stop. Those that are geared up for it certainly don't want to lose money repairing some old bit of tat.

The days of dumping everything in landfill have long gone. The country has been geared up now for half a decade to recycle old electrical items and salvage the metals and plastics for reuse, so not wasteful at all.

No, it was called The Suffolk Scrap Store if you really must know (think they're called Create now).

They don't have a working site, but here is some info on it (I know it says nothing about recycling, but trust me I've done work experience there).

This was like charity that helped disabled people.

Actually here's a tip.

assuming it's just the freeeview box itself that's broken, offer the remote control for sale on ebay. You might get a £ for it.

Unlike tv's where it's easy to get a replacement remote, nobody seems to make a replacement remote for freeview boxes. So someone with the same box but a dodgy remote might pay you a few £ for your old remote.

The rest just bin it.

But why not post the make and model of the box in this thread. There just might be someone interested who has a similar box and might want it for spares.

It's a Sony vtx-d800u (it only has generic remote).

Thank you for the suggestion.

Finally a use for PC World / Currys.

RECYCLING SERVICES

If you have any piece of electrical equipment you want to recycle, you can either:

Bring your old product into any of our PC World/Currys, Currys.digital stores or Megastores
or
We can collect and recycle your old TV (when you buy a TV of 40” or above) or large domestic appliance for free when you have your new product delivered
I got shot of an old printer and monitor by simply taking them along ... no problem.

Freecycle it. There are always people on the look out for broken electronic kit to fix or cannibalise.

My advice is perennial and may be of use in the future. In any case you didn't actually say that you coughed up unnecessarily.

On the subject, I have a freeview box + remote, bought from a BriHeart Charity shop, but can`t get it to produce pictures on a small TV. Could it be the remote that`s the problem? It doesn`t produce a `menu`, which it should to get started, according to the instruction manual. I`ve checked all the cables, scarts, aerial leads etc, so it would appear that either the remote or the box itself is faulty. The box shows the on/off lights and produces a blank screen, but not much else, apart from a message that `scart lead is in`.
