Hi all,

my other half finally stepped into the mobile 21st century with a new Samsung Galaxy S Plus (which has not been rooted, it is fresh out of the box). Only problem: her pre-pay sim doesn't allow for any data (zero)! Obviously there is no problem when connecting the phone to a wifi network to have apps running and downloading things in the background..
Is there an option to switch off data when not on wifi but allow for mms to be sent and received?

Many thanks for your help

Unfortunately not. What network are they on? Surely there must be some sort of data bolt on? Also if you don't want to go on contract maybe giffgaff would be a good idea as a smart phone is not very useful without data.

Pointless having the phone really - smartphones ought to be called pocket PCs that can also make phone calls.

When got my HTC I got a Giffgaff sim as I only wanted data - I use it all day at work for finding technical documents and lots of other stuff - after work I use 'catch that bus' and 'rail planner live' for obvious reasons - then I use 'tide 7', 'marine traffic', 'toilet finder', 'myplayer+' for freeview TV....could go on for ages but data is so important on a smartphone.
