In the skate-off...

I was shocked too - with him being one of the front runners (scoring higher than Matthew one week). Maybe people assumed he was safe - I did

I'm hoping this is the case as I'd like to see him in the final ..if he ends up going before Andy it'll be

Chico's been battling manflu all week and I thought it showed in his first performance which was a bit ragged (he managed to muster up enough strength to produce a decent skate off though).

I also think some voters became complacent, and in my case, I concentrated all my efforts on saving Chemmy this week.

Well it'll teach me to not share my votes for my faves.

He's tweeted that he was sick after the SO and the physio has told him to do nothing tomorrow to try to recover.

Hopefully he'll be fully fit by next weekend.

he did look a bit washed out tonight ... the blonde wig didn't help but he did look a bit unwell

I thought Chico would be near the top of the public voting - even an outside chance to win the final vs Matt and Jorgie due to his greater likeability.

Obviously I was wrong - but then last year the eventual winner was in the skate off two weeks before the final. So not all its lost for Chico yet.

It's surprising, I thought he were a contender to win!

All credit to chick did not referring to being unwell during the show,I wouldn't mind betting that Andy would have used it to get votes

The panel never really big him up. Chico has huge musclular arms and looks confdent when he skates unlike some of the other men. I was so suprised he was in the skate off.

I was shocked to see Chico in the skate off and delighted he was saved although poor Sam had to go. It should have been Andy in the skate off and going home in my opinion. I wonder if folks just thought he was safe and did'nt bother to vote.

Me too I was really shocked and although I didn't vote, don't usually until the last couple of weeks, will definitely put a couple his way next week. Sam going was also a total shock, lovely guy who I watched at first with indifference but what a star! I used to like Andy but he is just up himself.

I can just imagine Andy saying to the panel 'Don't you know I've had flu all week'?

I'm expecting Chico to get a massive rebound vote next week

I've just written similar in another thread, so sorry for repeating.

I was not surprised to see Chico in the skate off. The routine was mundane and if he had been put on earlier in the show, he may well have avoided bottom two. As it was, the viewers expect an exciting routine to finish the show and when your expectations are not met you're going to be less inclined to pick up the phone and vote...unless youre a diehard fan.

I'd anticipated an Andy vs Chico skate off, unfortunately I was only half right

Hope Chico comes back bigger and better next week.

I did think the routine was dull, but I blamed that on T&D - seems Chico's manflu was the real culprit The SO performance was an awful lot better and there was never any question that he'd survive it - I'm just sad he had to do it twice when he was feeling like death warmed up and put on skates.

I dare say the rebound effect and getting over the flu will keep Chico safe for a couple more weeks - but if he's in the SO again next week I'll start picking up the phone. Promise.

Yes Sam was in the skate off but Laura & Chloe were in skate offs too. If Matt and/or Jorgie avoid the skate off you'd still have to massively back them.

I too thought he had a more solid fan base. He is very likeable, never fails to thank J&C for this fantastic opportunity. Always listens to judges and takes their comments and board and always says thank you to the public for their support.

Considering his beginnings (reserve skater) he's come a long way and I was disappointed to see him in the skate off. I can only assume some of his fans thought 3rd position safe.

I think maybe Chico and Chemmy share some of their supporters and maybe this week they thought Chemmy at more risk.

Why must you take every opportunity to turn a post or thread, however irrelevant into another Andy bashing comment.

OK we get it. You don't like him. You think he should've left last night. You find him arrogant. You find him rude.

We get it but this thread is about Chico, so now can we stay on topic please.

I didn't think Chico was quite a good this week as last, but if he was unwell that accounts for it, but he was still very good compared to some of the others. Maybe voters considered him safe enough not to have to vote to keep him safe?

And I wonder how many people sent extra votes for Chemmy to keep her out of the bottom 2 again, and consequently Sam (& Chico) missed out?

This is so true - neither Chico nor Sam should have been in the SO last night, but all credit to Chico that he didn't play the "I'm ill - feel sorry for me and give me lots of votes" card. I'm sure the judging panel must have known he was poorly too, but they didn't mention it either (and why should they?) and nor did T and D. So he skated entirely on his own merits, which is as it should be. The fact he ended up in the SO was a bit of a shock, but as others have said, perhaps it was because his fans thought he was safe. I rarely vote myself (blame Jersey Telecom for that - we don't get any good deals when it comes to phone charges, unlike the rest of the UK!) so in theory I am also to blame for him not getting enough votes (but even if I had voted I could only have afforded to do so once!) and I have loved Chico as a 'breath of fresh air' in this season's DOI. Considering he was a reserve, and considering I didn't know him from Adam (I don't watch reality TV much so I didn't have any idea who he was beforehand) he's really made an impact with his dedication, good humour and humility. (Bits in bold - Andy, take note! And before I am castigated for 'having a go' at Andy in a Chico thread that is the only comparison I have made between them in my post.)

Not so much a show off as very enthusiastic, almost like an excited child. He should be irritating, but somehow he just makes me smile!

I agree with the poster above (kaycee). I don't think Chico is a 'show-off' at all, but he does have a natural 'exuberance' which could be interpreted as such. But to me he just seems likes someone who's having a good time learning a new skill and challenging himself along the way. His natural exuberance may grate with some viewers, but as a 'Chico-virgin' before this years's DOI I don't find him OTT at all, but a breath of fresh air. He seems happy to be there, happy to be challenged, and seems to be loving the chance to learn something new. To me that's exactly what DOI is all about.

Dislike Chico if you like - we can't like everyone - but don't use that dislike as a reason to 'bash' him unfairly when it comes to his progress, personality and place on the show.

It did seem to me that he was off his game a bit last night and if he was feeling off colour then that would probably explain it. I am glad though that he got through.

Maybe too late by then - lol.
