Nothing wrong with expressing opinion. Its when the opinion has a clear bias that I have a problem with. Android may not be the only quad-core phone this year, but they are the only quad-core phones released to date. Thus discussing other OS's is guessing.

As for accusing me of turning this into a fanboy war, you should maybe read the second post in this thread. So maybe get your facts right.

The real issue here, is that whilst the electronic side of things have moved along at a fast rate, battery technology that been stagnant in comparison. If battery technology had moved along at a similar rate, or even slightly slower, then we wouldnt be having the current problem. Thus having to charge your phone on a daily bases has become the norm. Its something you accept when you buy a smartphone. One reason why I think this is the case, is that electronics were used in a desktop computer that was plugged into the mains. This power, efficient were not an issue. When mobile devices came along, especially smartphones, the battery became an issue. I think someone needs to look into battery technology, and produce a battery that can keep a smartphone charged for at least a week. Although in reality it will probably be smaller jumps. At the moment I would take a battery that would keep my phone charged for two days with average use.

I think motorola have the right idea, introduce a phone (razr) with a standard battery. Then introduce a bigger battery pack and back cover for the same phone. This will make the phone heavier and thicker, but at least the consumer has the option. Its a simple solution, using the current technology.
I don't have a clear bias and i clarified my point into why I didn't really see the point in upgrading to a quad core phone ATM.

New battery technologies are being developed that lasts a week and takes 15 mins to charge by using an anode thats composed out of graphene/silicon. It will probably still be a few years off mind you but it is on the way.

I think as long as a phone can last all day under heavy use then thats plenty.

I do think that the ARM A15 looks interesting due to it apparently using the half the power for twice the speed, I would have to see this to believe it though

as per several comments in this thread already it is proposed that quad core may improve battery life .........

The new chipsets are more energy efficient on all core setups, single, dual and quad.

Have a look at how well the new A15 Dual Core does against the Tegra 3 (A9 Quad Core) on Android 4.0 - http://www.anandtech.com/show/5571/t...9-13-ghz-video

Although the bad thing is we won't see A15 devices until Q4 at best.

OP.....it'll start no matter what you want...Half of them don't read anything but the title of the thread.

Back on track......IMO quad core etc is going to appeal to two camps. Those that use it and those who just brag about having it (99% of users wouldn't be a far off guess for that camp.)
Personally. I won't be rushing out to upgrade if the only upgrade is to quad core as that won't give me anything extra.
As always, the tech is outstripping the need...
I dont necessarily agree with this,

Quad core phone technology is another step in the advancements in the evolution of innovation and design. Its a natural progression in that respect. It wont be long until enterprising developers produce software which will require nay demand a quad core base. Jelly bean will more than likely be launched on a Tegra 3 phone.

Who needed dual core PCs? Players of Doom III that's who.

I agree with call100, my Laptop and Computer are both only dual core (Intel Core 2 Duo) and there is no benefit to me in upgrading to quad, I dont think i'm alone in that respect.

Strangely enough, Im with you as well. My Presario is only dual core and I do not see the need to upgrade but I recognise that technology improves all the time and I would never criticise those improvements or see them as being detrimental in the grand scheme of things.

Indeed i'm in full agreement and if you were going to buy a new phone this year anyway you may as well get the best tech available but I wouldn't upgrade just for the sake of it any more.

I am able to upgrade my phone in April but I reckon i'm just gonna drop to a cheaper contract until I see a good reason to upgrade.

Really can't fault your logic. I have a humble single core Desire S but to use the old cliche, it works like a charm. However, I would like to have a step up next year just a long as it fits my budget. Like you, I will not break the bank just to get the new stuff.

Its one of the reasons I tend to buy the phone outright, and then get a sim only deal. I then dont 'have to upgrade' when the contract is up (as there is no contract), also if there was a phone that I must have, I am not tied into a contract and can purchase it. SGS2 was the only phone that I came close to purchasing (I have a desire HD), but decided against it.

I have decided that I will be purchasing a new phone this year. However I am going to wait for the SGS3 to be announced before I decide which one. Even then I wont be rushing to but it on release day. Will wait for a few reviews to be released and then decide.
