These injuries are scary

First Jen, then Matt, the blades are dangerous. Is there any way to make things safer ? (Health and safety issue.)

I don't know how they could make it any "safer" so to speak, the involvement of blades is inevitable and the injuries have normally been an accident from a misplaced leg etc. so unless they cut out alot of the moves which are risky to begin with, then injuries will always have a possibility of occuring, I think.

Also I think it was mentioned by someone in the past that there seems to be alot more lifts this series? I don't pay too much attention so maybe there is and the lifts promote more chance of accidents.

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but to me it seems that there are fewer lifts/tricks used than in previous years - certainly in the first couple of weeks the girls skated more on the ice than off of it (or standing still - remembering Nadia and Kerry's first skates in particular - and all of Kerry's subsequent skates!) and it seems that they have made more of an effort this year to choreograph more time with even the weaker girls on the ice. I agree it may be a minimum of more time, but I've watched DOI from the very first episode and was vastly more disenchanted last year than this with the weaker girls. In fact I was wondering if the powers that be had actually had a word with T and D to that effect because the difference in the early skates was so marked!

But it does seem that no one agrees with me!

I don't think there is any difference between this year & any other. I posted on an earlier thread on this that others had done the same lift that Jorgie did. The nature of skating is such that it can never be risk free. Injuries will always occur, I just think they have been a bit more unlucky this year.

No you are right there are fewer lifts than in sone past series and certainly fewer of the riskier non carrying type - although there's been recent years with few big lifts too because no partnerships had the right size and skills to do them. Leaving aside Bonnie, Suzanne and Clare did routines with 3-5 in them including a couple of big ones - even Jorgie's not quite done that yet. If they are doing fewer lifts, but some people are still doing new ones each week, its possible they are not repeating them and developing them as much, or getting, as used to doing them - which ironically might explain some accidents?

It looked like Chico's partner (I think it was Chico) could easily have been very seriously injured when he fell on her as she was going beneath him.

Someone is going to be killed or seriously injured. I know people like to see the "headbanger" routine, but one day it will go wrong.

I would prefer a return to proper dancing on ice as T&D used to do.

I suppose it is a fine line. This year has had more injuries than usual, but fortunately no serious ones. Yet. They have to keep pushing the boundaries, I suppose, but I would be very wary of letting a male celeb perform the headbanger, no matter how good he is.

But the first serious injury will be the end of the show.
