Songs that have changed your attitude to life
What are some songs that have inspired you, awakened you to see the world in a different way or made you realise something you never noticed before.
For me there are many, but there's one that I heard the other day which has really been stuck in my mind in such a way it makes me feel like a different person since hearing it. The song is Roll to Me by Del Amitiri -- anyone remember it? I remember my mum playing Roll to Me when I was younger (I must have been 6 or 7, I am now in my early 20's), I heard it the other day and was instantly taken back to a memory of me dacing around the kitchen without a care in the world. I grew up and developed a low self esteem and after hearing the song I realised I didn't care anymore and now I am going to dance whenever I feel like. Of course I probably will get the odd look, especially since I can't dance. XD. So I won't dance literally, I'll just apply that dance feeling I once felt to just learning to be care-free and happy. Not scared to enjoy life and try to make each day one to look back on and think of as a happy one. So what's yours? |

Roll to me , yes I remember it, was very catchy.
I don't know if this has exactly changed my attitude to life but I guess I used to be quite ignorant when it came to music (in my younger more immature years). I used to think Radiohead were a dreary rubbish band with one okay song until I looked into their back catalogue which to me was a world of absolutely wonderful music. Such a great experience discovering songs by them, they are now one of my favourite bands. I used to say 'oh no they are only depressing' like a lot of ignoramuses, but there are lots of great/light hearted songs by them. Granted they have made quite a lot of sad songs but I have discovered beauty in these songs, and have learnt that just because a song is a bit dark/sad doesn't mean they can't be appreciated. |

A lot of people hold that view about The Smiths, that they are miserable and depressing. Anyone who says that hasn't fully explored their back catalogue. Radiohead are one of the best bands we've ever produced, in my opinion. Beautiful music. |

I have two. One is Hold On by Wilson Phillips. Whenever I have a bad day, I listen to that song and it helps a lot. Also, Mean by Taylor Swift, I'm having a really bad time now, and when I listen to this song, the chorus especially, it makes me more confident.

One that, by my standards, is a bit of a guilty pleasure actually is Whitney Houston's My Love is Your Love. I really liked it as a youngster when it first came out, and since her death I have rediscovered it.
In retrospect of what has happened to Whitney the lyrics are particularly hauntingly beautiful, and for me really hit home what's truly important in life (I'm a materialistic little s***t most of the time if I'm honest). Another is Hey Mama by Kanye West. Again it makes me re-evaluate my sometimes selfish attitude and instils in me that I should not take my close family for granted. Another one that is even more emotional knowing that his mother died since recording the track. |
