Long overdue. They're 20 points off the CL places now so no manager is going to make that up this season. I'm hearing Inzaghi could be his replacement though.

Shame for him as the guy is top class so anyone like that missing the World Cup is disappointing.

MIGHT be good news though if we play Columbia in the 2nd round albeit naturally they are more that Falcao.

Are attendances in the Copa del Ray ususally poor as the Nou Camp was not even a quarter full last night?

Bit of excitement in La Liga today as Barcelona lost 3-2 to Valencia. It's the first time they've lost at home since April 2012 when Real Madrid beat them 2-1.

Atletico can now go top if they beat Sociedad at home tomorrow. If they fail to do that, Real Madrid could go top if they can get a win away in Bilbao.

Atletico managed to do it. They go top of La Liga with a very comfortable 3-0 win over Real Sociedad.

Do they have the stamina to stay there? Their biggest games to come are Real Madrid at home and Barcelona away on the last day of the season. Imagine if that was a title decider!

Edit: make that 4-0. New signing Diego has grabbed a late goal on his return.

Plenty of quality football on tonight, Copa Del Rey and Coppa Italia on Sky then the Copa Libertadores Qualifying Round on BT Sport at midnight. Also French League Cup on ESPN!

Both 2-0, Real leading and Roma leading too, though the Roma/Napoli game is only 35 or so minutes in. Napoli are in some shocking form, two draws and then lost 3-0 at the weekend to Atalanta. 2-0 down to Roma in the first half.

Just a week after going top of La Liga, Atletico have already managed to relinquish the position by losing 2-0 away to lowly Almeria.

Real Madrid currently sit top on goal difference but will be forced down to 2nd if Barcelona can win away in Seville tomorrow, and it would mean all 3 teams on 57 points.

Meanwhile, in Italy, there might have been another racism storm brewing after Balotelli was subbed off in Milan's 3-1 defeat at Napoli and appeared to be crying. Rumours spread quickly that it was down to racist chants by the Napoli fans, but apparently this wasn't the case and he was simply upset at his poor form.

Atletico HAD to revert to historical type at some point I guess, so it's not that surprising that after doing all that hard work to gain that psychological boost of going top, they then proceed to get stuffed by Real, and then lose the next league game too.

they'll regroup though, and are definitely in it for the long haul. this is a genuine three-horse race.

Real Madrid make it 1-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate after Ronaldo wins and dispatches a penalty. Atletico need 5 and have pretty much a second string side out. A 'clasico' final grows ever more likely.

Barca just put in their most convincing performance for a very long time with a 6-0.

Messi's injury problems could well prove to be a blessing in disguise in the long run for Barca, as the rest have had to step up and contribute in his absence. in previous seasons, he'd end up 40-50 goals ahead of the next highest scorer, but he's on 24, Sanchez and Pedro are on 17, Fabregas is on 14, and Neymar on 12. with a goal threat coming from so many different players, we're bound to be less predictable/easy to play against in the Champions League this year.

Crazy. Punishment imminent for Villarreal. Fortunately the game was resumed and Celta Vigo scored again to win 2-0.

In Germany, Bayern extended their lead at the top of the league to 16 points with a routine 4-0 win over Freiburg while Leverkusen lost 2-1 at home to Schalke. Bayern were even able to rest several first teamers with the midweek CL game against Arsenal in in mind.

The wins for Barcelona and City should make for a cracking game on Tuesday.

Anyone watch hamburg v Dortmund at the weekend?

If so what did you guys think of hamburgs 3rd goal, possibly one of the best hit freekicks I've ever seen.
