For those saying anything like the events in Sunderland/Manchester have never happened before, I take you back to the Bundesliga title race of 2001. Schalke beat Unterhaching 5-3 but with Bayern only needing a point, were not champions. However, Sergej Barbarez scored as the game entered injury time and with the game at the old Parkstadion finished, Schalke were "champions" for the first time in the 1958 - before the Bundesliga was formed. The drama wasn't over. Patrik Andersson scored from an indirect free-kick, controversially awarded, handing the title to Bayern. The main difference being that Schalke were in the position of Man City and lost out (and are still to win the title) but nevertheless it will never be forgotten.
Caught the very end of Montpellier - LOSC - great play from Giroud to break clear and keep his cool to play in Ait Fana who couldn't miss. |

Yeah I think that was around 1993 when Djukic, the centre-back who went on to play for Valencia, missed in the last minute. At least Depor went on to win it eventually.

Juve lose their first game since May 15th 2011 as Napoli beat them in the Coppa Italia final 2-0. Some poor officiating on the night and Juve should certainly of had a blatant penalty at 0-0 which could of changed the entire game. Conte got it slightly wrong tonight though, once again opting for Borriello up front, another one of his very questionable decisions.
Del Piero plays his final game for Juve and it's also possible that Lavezzi and Cavani have played their final games for Napoli too. Quag get's a red card right near the end for an idiotic elbow. Cavani and Hamsik with the goals. Unbeaten in the league of course, but Juve will feel slightly gutted they didn't manage the 'invincible' double as they like to put it. |

John Utaka coming off now after scoring twice tonight for Montpellier who are on the verge of the title. Karim Ait Fana replacing him - the man who scored the winner at Lille last week. There were two stoppages, which means that PSG have already finished their game winning at Lorient. Auxerre, already down, need an unlikely two goals to give PSG the title.
Edit: Full time!!! Montpellier win their first title. Incredible stuff to hold off PSG. Perhaps karma for how Kombouaré was sacked as well. Fifth different winner in five years in Ligue 1 (Lyon, Bordeaux, Marseille, Lille, Montpellier). |

Well done to Montpellier on their first league title, despite the best efforts of the Auxerre fans to ruin their night. Showing that the oil money can be beaten.

Busy market so far for Juve as they really continue to improve their squad ahead of their return to the CL.
So far: Paul Pogba Mauricio Isla Kwandwo Asamoah Nicola Leali To plus to those they've also made permanent deals on Giaccherini, Caceres and Giovinco. Caceres who was on loan from Sevilla, with the option for a permanent deal which they took up and Giovinco and Giaccherini who they brought up from the co ownership deal, so they're all done deals. Also, Lucio has pretty much signed for them too, expected medical today...and that's on a free. Awesome signing. Elsewhere Lavezzi leaves Napoli as he joins PSG, who are also looking to improve their squad big time ahead of next season. Napoli bring in Vargas in his place, could be a brilliant move. Guiran and Palacio both to Inter too. Shaping up for a very interesting switch up in Serie A. |

Conte gets a ten month ban, ridiculous decision of course.
Appeal being turned in and it's about 95% certain it'll be over turned. Giulia Bongiorno in on the side of Conte and co, the woman who freed Sollecito (Boyfriend of Amanda Knox in the murder case over Meredith) and who has been involved in numerous Mafia cases etc etc. Likely to be brought down to a few months, around the four mark. Only a touchline ban too, so it shouldn't have too much effect. Madness that they're even having to appeal this, disgraceful decision to have banned him in the first place. |

PSG losing 2-0 at home at Lorient at HT. Lorient look like scoring every time they go forward! Still fancy PSG to win this though.

Just watching Madrid v Valencia as a warm up for the real football later .. Barcelona
![]() Looks like Omaha Beach at the moment . Ramos has sustained a head injury and Pepe has just taken his own keeper out in an horrific collision . It was a bad clash of heads but Pepe led with his elbow as usual as Casillas took the full impact Pepe has left the field for treatment . Can't see the Madrid keeper coming out for the second half , he looks out of it to me . Halftime 1:1 . |

Just to keep things fair ... Looks as though the ref just made another bad decision , could easily have been a penalty for Madrid just then ..
3 minutes to go and still 1:1 . That match winning , incorrectly given , disallowed Valencia goal could be very important at the end of the season

Probably the Luigi Berlusconi Trophy, I'd have liked to watch Spartak-Fenerbahce but I won't be home in time.

I like these choices, I am going to record the AC Milan match, and the Celtic match, as I am going to watch my local non-league side play live.

Likely got a few things to do tonight so I'll record the Milan/Juve game. Hopefully I'll be free as I really want to catch the Monchengladbach game, my favorite German team.

Haven't updated much on Serie A, will start doing so from next weekend.
Juve continued their undefeated streak by beating main title rivals Napoli earlier, 2-0 with goals from Caceres and Pogba late on. Meanwhile, Milan continue their seriously dire form and are currently down 3-0 away at Lazio. Some Milan fans still calling for Allegri's head. |

The streak is over!
And would you believe it, it ends at 49 games, similar to Arsenal's in the PL. Inter defeat Juve 1-3, the first defeat for them in their new stadium too. A back and fourth game that could of swung either way, with Milito being the difference for me, which shows how crucial it is to have a top class striker up top, which Juve continue to lack and therefor it's the only thing that's really holding them back from being one of the best teams in the world (I'd certainly rate them top ten right now, but with a clinical striker up top, it'd take them to a completely different level). Inter now close the gap at the top and we have a brilliant title race. All eyes will be on how Juventus respond to this defeat, midweek CL is crucial. |

Watching Salt Lake v Seattle in the MLS playoffs, the match commentator just cut away from discussing the match and started to advertise petrol. So different to over here.

Great thread.
The new joy for me this season has been to watch ITV4's Bundesliga highlights on Monday nights. - a bit like old style UK highlights, a Brigitte Bardot-style presenter at the begining and end and then just football, football, football for an hour. - No endless analysis with flashy graphics. - straight into match action, not up to 3 minutes (I counted once on MOTD) of vignette action and cartoon characters setting it up - No 'matches coming up' when you already know or can wait, cos that's what you're watching for. - Interesting stadia which don't all look the same - huge crowds - brilliant football - quirky commentating from presenters who either know a lot but just don't speak English that well, or don't know a lot and are reading out someone else's script in a rather stilted way. Endearing either way. Fantastic stuff - makes me want to get on a plane and go to Schalke, Buyern, Dortmund, Frankfurt, Wolfsburg etc ertc etc. Our football is GREAT from the top down to County Leagues but if I hear the likes of Richard Keyes sprouting out, 'Our league is the BEST in the world' one more time, I think I'll destroy my digital radio. How do you measure the greatest? What criteria do you use? How do you quantify any evaluation? Richest, best marketed, most watched; all of these indicators are quantifiable and true (if we crunched / googled the numbers). But what a smug and self congratulatory statement BLITW is. Just spend a few minutes looking through Oliver's Alamanck of World Football, a new publication putting Rothmans / Sky in the shade and maybe you might just think again about what is really a very parochial statement. Enjoy it all, that's what I say. |
