My advice would be to go and read up and actually learn about the scandal or are you just wearing the good old rose tinted glasses again?

As I intimated previously, the law is the law once you've been caught doing something - we also need to bear in mind that this is the Italian legal / justice system we're talking about here; and I am led to believe that it may be susceptible to outside influences...

There is absolutely no denying that Inter benefited from the Calciopoli scandal though, not only were Milan, Lazio, Fiorentina and Juvé (not forgettting Reggina, obviously) kneecapped by the judgements in terms of points deductions and relegation in some cases, but they then had to sell their best players as they couldn't afford them without the European football they had lost. This was a double-bonus for Inter as they then picked up Ibra and Viera from Juventus for a lot less than they were actually worth at the time.

Where is the evidence that Inter were involved? Of course they benefited from the scandal, so what? Baseless speculations from rival teams (and I don't even support Inter). I'd also like to see some evidence of the undue outside influences on the investigation referred to in this thread.

All this talk of that scandal makes me think about how many of the other big clubs in Europe could have done what Juve did and bounced back from relegation so quickly?

If any of the big clubs in England were demoted to The Championship, (Man Utd, Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, or Arsenal I am principally thinking about), would they amongst all of the chaos that would bring, be able to get back up pretty quickly?
The Championship is a very tough league to get out of at the best of times, so with the upheaval that being demoted would bring, and a lot of players coming and going, would any of these clubs be able to go back up again in a short space of time?
Logic would suggest that they would, but there is part of me that thinks that they would be (and rightly so) huge targets for the rest of the teams in the league to raise their games against, and so would find it hard to win as many games as they possibly should do.

If Bayern were relegated to their second division, would they have enough to get back up? I think that they would indeed.

Same goes for Barca and Real in Spain, as even if they did lose a fair few players, they have players in their youth set-ups which are used to playing regularly at that lower level that they could call upon.

It is just a thought that I had, and I could be (not for the first or last time) completely misjudging these situations.

First example that comes to mind is Newcastle. They found it easy enough to come straight back up, although they did manage to keep many of their important players which will have helped. If they could do it, I don't see why the top clubs couldn't.

Del Piero, Nedved, Buffon all stayed with Juve, so even though they lost some big stars those three at their peak were in a league of their own. I don't know if Juve would have found it as easy to bounce back if Del Piero had left.

Cavani was awful last night, that air-shot he had in the second half deserves an apology all of it's own from him!

Gignac is an interesting one, he's obviously in good form, and he looks to be enjoying himself at Marseille at the moment. The chances are though that he won't be there next season; one of the journos on BT last night pointed out that he's in the last year of his contract and he's probably too expensive for Marseille to keep him on after that. The crunch will come in January, do Marseille cash in on him while they can still get a transfer fee for him, or do they keep him for this season and let him go for free in the summer?
no way they can sell him in january if they are in the title or even just top 3 race. Marseille have to get back into the champions league.

considering they lost Mathieu Valbuena in the summer, had a new manager come in also. Its pretty remarkable that they have started so well.

For some reason I had it in my head that this was Bielsa's second season in charge, I have no idea why though...

I agree that it would be suicide in terms of the title challenge to sell Gignac in January, but if they were offered £10m or something in that region, I think Marseille would find it very hard to turn down rather than see him walk away for free in July.

I dunno, I'm not sure what the cash reward for winning League 1 is - it wouldn't surprise me to find out it's less than £10m (plus the saving in Gignac's wages etc as well).

Gignac could well be the difference between Marseille winning the league this season, but I don't think he'll be the difference between Marseille qualifying for the Champion's League or not in the second half of the season.

Absolutely over the moon that Roma won and Juve could only get a point from their game. Woohoo! Some justice after the terrible refereeing of the last game.

Marseille 8 wins in a row now and gignac scored his 10th of the season.

7 points clear of PSG.

not just about money though.

being champions again should mean something to the owners.

the fans will hit the roof and I cant see the manager being happy if Gignac is sold when they are challenging for the title.

if they carry on this form through till Jan then selling is simply not an option.

Milan won again. It's going to be an interesting battle for 3rd place and Juve/Roma are neck on neck for the title.

Inter and Napoli draw 2-2. For 79 minutes this was a truly miserable game of football, but then Napoli twice took the lead only for Inter to respond immediately each time, including in the 90th minute and probably save Mazzarri's job for a little while.

Tonight's Roma v Bayern game is like Sophie's choice for me. Bayern is my team and I want them to win the CL, but I really want Roma to get out of the group and then there is Totti.

If Bayern is your team then there's no contest. Your team comes first before anything else. No one should ever want their team to lose or even consider it.

Whenever Cov face a team containing one of League One's superhunks there's no quandary in my mind, I promise you that.

Yes, yes, I know. I never want Bayern to lose, but I wouldn't be unhappy about a draw. I do love Roma (and Totti) too
