Ligue 1 looks to be really quite fascinating this season.
Lyon are about to top the league with another great performance, especially from Lacazette, and you have Lyon, Saint-Etienne, PSG and Marseille all right there in the title picture. If Monaco beat Bordeaux later on then they're arguably right in the title race too. Five teams competing for the league would be really interesting to see in Ligue 1 this season.

Quality game earlier, exactly what you want from a derby. The Strootman change at halftime made a big difference, such a quality player.

I didn't mind that myself, it's nice to see players having a bit of fun with their goal celebrations! Was it Florenzi that ran into the crowd to give his grabby a kiss earlier this season for Roma?

Madrid derby's on. Currently it's Real Madrid 2 - 2 Atlético Madrid.
Torres is on a hat-trick. ![]() Nevermind, he's been subbed off. He must be getting Rafa flashbacks.

I'm in a minority but I've been saying 75% of Torres' woes were in his head. He's still relatively quick and you never lose technique. It's a shame he wasted so many prime years being unhappy. I hope his Atletico return goes well. Certain egos didn't wanted him at Chelsea and added to the price tag it mentally crippled him. When his form dipped, sporadic appearances out of position were hardly going to reverse that and he was a shambles at times, stopped making runs and played safe rather than take responsibility.
As a football fan, I wish him well for the autumn of his career. |

Go El Nino! Wow, what a night for him!!
And as a neutral couldn't be happier to see what used to be one of my favourite players to watch re-discover a bit of his alleged "lost forever" form. It's only one game, but I'd love nothing more than to see him become a top striker again. Evidently a super nice guy off the pitch too. Maybe home really is where the heart is... And Bravo Simeone, what's he said to him! Bravo Fernando, you'll well deserve tomorrow's headlines. |

Just to say great game by Torres. Looks really good back at Atletico and they've beaten Real Madrid again to advance in the Copa Del Rey.
Apart from the Champions League final Atletico really seem to have the advantage over Real at the moment. Atletico won the Super Cup earlier in the season too. And also good to see other Spanish teams may be closing the gap on Real and Barca in La Liga. |

Ancelotti will be secretly relieved at that result tonight, I think. He really has to win the league to stand a chance of keeping his job.

I think Sevillia have a very good chance of reaching the final, the draw has been kind to them in their half.

Looks like Atletico Madrid are going to be receiving a decent cash boost, as the richest man in China is set to buy a 20% stake in the club according to thisd link:-

It's starting to look like Serie A is a one-horse race again unfortunately - Roma have dropped four points in the last two games and Juvé don't look like letting up any time soon.
Good to see Lyon kept going at the weekend, and hilarious to see that the PSG players looked like they were trying to get Blanc fired for most of the game at the weekend too! |

Which would be a bigger success story, St Etienne or Southampton qualifying for the Champions League?

southampton considering the competition they would need to fend of to do it.
also they coming from no where (league two not long ago and even last year were 8th), st entienne are in europa thus been close to CL before. |

I'd have to agree with whedon there, Southampton getting Champions League would mean getting in ahead of at least two or three other genuine contenders, St Etienne would only have to knock off one other contender; PSG, Marseille or Lyon.
Bear in mind as well that Southampton are financially out-gunned by all the other teams around them, whereas in France there is only really PSG who are in the super-rich category, everyone else is on a pretty even playing field. |

Monaco beating Lille 1-0, they are doing very well indeed this season, far better than I think anyone thought that they might be doing at this stage!

Shocking performance from Inter again, lost 3-1 to Sassuolo, pretty heated game too. No surprise to also see the drama with Osvaldo off of the pitch, as I said a few weeks back, bizarre that they even brought him in, a player that will do more bad than good for most clubs.
Roma also dropped points yesterday, 1-1 against Empoli. Seriously bad news for Roma though with Iturbe now suffering what looks like a serious ligament injury, likely out for the rest of the season. Joins Strootman there who will also miss the rest of the season. Juventus play Udinese in the 2pm kickoff and could go nine points clear. |

Remarkable Borussia Dortmund are bottom of Bundesliga although 2 points from safety, amazing scenes after the final whistle of the latest game 1-0 home loss, players Roman Weidenfeller and Mats Hummels went up & spoke to the fans. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPUuFVtLD7g

Dortmund won the league in 2011 and 2012 and were runners-up last year so the fans had been kind to them so far, hoping the team would return to their usual form. The German media has actually been criticising the fans in recent months for that, arguing that the team needs a kick up their backside by their supporters. It seems panic is setting in now though. A loss against 10-men Augsburg at home is quite serious and relegation now seems like a very real possibility. |
