They've always struck me as very different players, with different strengths and weaknesses (admittedly both have very few of the latter).

It's a real pleasure to have lived through this era. People will be talking about these two in half a century.

I have no doubt that there will be other great players, but there will surely be very few that reach the heights of these two and consistently perform at such a high level for so many years.
definitely agree.

Much as I want Juve to win, only a small part of me believes it's possible. Buffon will have to be a man possessed. Forza Gigi

I didn't knock Ronaldo at all. in fact, I believe I even referred to him as incredible. he's just not Messi, is all.

people are being blinded by the ridiculous numbers. watch both players for 90 minutes twice a week, and it's as clear as day - to me at least - that one is that much better than the other.
The gap is quite wide for me. That's not a knock against Ronaldo but Messi is from a different planet.

I completely fail to understand why being in awe of Messi has to be done by knocking Ronaldo or vice versa depending on which team people supports or who is their favourite. Its all very Super Nintendo vs Sega Megadrive from back in the playground.
Totally agree, and in my experience it's the Messi/Barca fans who are more prone to it.

Although I should add that I don't believe anyone on here is particularly guilty of it.

Napoli v Lazio tonight to determine who takes the last Champions League playoff play in Italy, should be a good one!

So Higuain costs Napoli a playoff spot.

2-4 to Lazio.

And so Rafa's reign there ends very much on a disappointing note.

Ancelotti being replaced by Rafa is just beyond bizarre.

Karlsruher look to be in the Bundesliga, whilst Hamburg's 52 year stay seems to all over.

Very harsh I fully agree, in my mind it wasn't a free-kick, but from there wow what calmness under that kind of pressure, knowing if you don't score you are relegated!

Wow, What drama at the end! Of course one wouldn't have been enough for Karlsruher, didn't realize that when they got the penalty.

Have to feel for the Karlsruher players.

Yeah my bad, playoff matches aren't usually resolved on away goals, thought one goal would mean penalties

Cracking match and I'm so pleased for Hamburg as I've followed them since the early 70's (local team to where my mum came from).

It was an amazing match, I loved the subs being ballboy! 😀😀

Yes, I feel for the Karlsruher players, to be that close to promotion!

I think that we should introduce that in this country, imagine Hull v Norwich for a place in the Premier League!

Yeah, I thought that was common knowledge.

First two seasons, if I recall correctly.
