It depends on the game, strategy games are better on touch screen than controls IMO.

For FPS and the likes you need controls and TBH preferably a full sized controller.

The Vita has both, therefore I'd much rather use that than an iPad or any other tablet for gaming.

For me, an iPad would be handy for watching movies / TV on a decent screen whllst lounging on the couch or bed... outside of that I don't see the appeal.

Maybe I'm missing something......

Oh I agree its ahead. I stated that. But its not as ahead as the iPhone was in its day. Its not 'wow' ahead.

I've stated I wish there was more as it all helps drive the market so we all benefit regardless of os preferences.

The announcement just doesn't look like its driving any market. Catch up plus a better screen.

If they had come up with some great new tech then apple users would be happier and so would those who use other units as other manufacturers play catch up.

Really I'm not being obtuse. We all want to see the market and tech evolve don't we?

Seriously if you are happy with the announcement then great. I'm not arguing. I just expected more.

iPad 2 will stay in the line-up, priced at $399 in the US for the 16GB wifi version.

I wonder if it's getting like the iPhone?

1 step (year) upgrade is not justifiable but 2 steps?

From iPhone3G to iPhone4 to iPhone5?

Or

From iPhone3GS to iPhone4S to iPhone5S?

Maybe they're creating a 2 yearly replacement trend?

My issue with the Vita is the cost of games in SEN, if they made that more inline with the app store it would better buy.

Also in typical Sony standards the browser is awful. I dont have any hopes for them to make it better either as the PS3 one is unusable IMO.

Big hint that we'll be seeing the iPhone 5 pretty soon.

I think this is the case no matter which manufacturer you buy from which is handy as contracts are often 24 months now.

Typically Apple only changes the industry they enter once. The iPod did that. The iPhone did that. The iPad did that. But later versions of each product are simply refining that product and making it better. They can't reinvent the tablet, because the solution they have is already supposed to be perfect in their eyes.

The next ground breaking product is meant to be the TV set they're developing.

As for pushing the industry forward, they don't really need to do that. They're making so much revenue right now it's silly. They sold 40 million iPads last year and some are estimating 100 million this year. They just need to keep doing what they're doing. They have so much money in the bank now it's just crazy. And their share price is at an all time high. Which when you think many predicted their down fall post Steve Jobs.. so far they're doing just fine.

Yes, the UK date is 16th March, same as the US.

The prices given in the "iPad event" were all in $USD, but as they exactly match the $USD launch prices of the iPad 2 it is a very safe bet that the "New iPad" will cost exactly the same as the iPad 2 originally did (bar any exchange rate differences).

How likely is that though? People norally do their research before buying expensive gadgets.

You should be able to preorder any where that sells it if they allow you to.

I know you could with the iPad 2.
