Bring back Valhund and Soundburst, the Apple "debates" were more lively when they were around, although I did spot them getting their iPhone 4's here:

Well for a while there i was mellowing and accepting that Apple may have changed to a degree and then .... BOOM ! ... pocatello posts and I recall why I and many, many others laugh uncontrollably at the Apple Fanatics who queue outside when a new Apple shop opens ......

Really .... apologies to all you normal Apple Users but its a minority that really screw things up for you ....
Wow, what a wind up merchant. Your position is that apple is just tricking people into buying their stuff, and you claim everyone else is being unreasonable?

You come into a tablet forum and an ipad thread to spew about apple and you pretend you aren't part of a "minority that screws things up"?

where have I said anything about tricking? What have I spewed? There has been some interesting discussion on this thread but I don't feel your posts have added anything ......

I'm on a tablet FORUM. I'm discussing TABLETS. Isn't that what its all about? I've learnt some new stuff. I've read some interesting thoughts. Then you pop in with your standard "your just typical of an apple hater" rubbish. Sheesh .....

Hmmm, I wonder why they got the chance to review it before others..?

50 YEARS FROM NOW, THE IPAD WON'T LOOK OUT OF PLACE
YES, THIS DISPLAY IS OUTRAGEOUS. IT'S STUNNING. IT'S INCREDIBLE.
Yeah, I wonder...

I hope everyone's going for one of the larger storage options
Retina Display makes new iPad apps up to 5x larger
The Keynote application is up from 115MB to 327MB, while Numbers has more than doubled in size from 109MB to 283MB.

Pages has almost tripled from 95MB to 269MB, while the most dramatic increase comes through iMovie which is up from a humble 70MB to 404MB.
Glad I opted for the 32GB now.

Don't know but on the previous encarnation of the "engadget show" they weren't afraid to tear bad products a new one so they have credibility until someone proves different.

Btw the head guy josh was on attack of the show before the ipad shipped since he saw it at the launch event and he was already saying that stuff about the display.

Its a fairly gushing review ..... plenty of use of the words 'outrageous', 'stunning' etc.

I would guess that for those seeking to purchase a first iPad it would be a no-brainer over the iPad2 but does it bring enough to the table to suggest an upgrade for existing owners ?

I have an ASUS Transformer (the original release). Whilst the Prime and the 700/Pad/whateverASUSarecallingitthisweek is an upgrade I dont see it as enough to justify a further investment 12 months in.

Will anyone see the extra thickness/weight as a downside ? The iPad was (rightly) touted as a light and sleek design. Its odd that they have actually gained thickness and weight (and no im not saying its a deal-breaking amount of either).

Genuine question (again) before im accused of trolling etc .....

Not to me. The increased screen res and associated graphics hardware obviously has a larger power draw. I'd rather have something slightly weightier that delivers the same "up to 10 hours" single charge battery life than something that can only manage six or seven hours on a single charge.

Exactly. Most likely due to a slightly larger battery since that's what makes up most of the iPad's internals.

You are correct.

Anyone remember the Toshiba E800 from 2003?
4" screen , advanced transflective TFT colour display, Wifi, ARM CPU, Windows Mobile 2003 OS.

It is very very bizarre that only AMOLED+ and the LG Optimus Black screens that gets close in usefulness outdoors.
Why is everyone allergic to the sun?

Of course there was also Psion back then.

Nokia ClearBlack is pretty darn good too in outdoors sunshine. My old HTC phone by comparison would just turn into a mirror.

I live in Scotland, we get sun a few days of the year.

Also I have no issues using the iPad outside.

My SF is exactly the same. It seems that screen brightness compensates so for standard TFT extra brightness is needed.
I think the Nokia N95 and a fair few other Nokias use transflective TFT screens. Obviously it is not so important for indoor gadgets like the iPad.

Sat here waiting for the delivery man to arrive... I hope it'll arrive this morning, the day will drag if it doesn't arrive until this afternoon.
