Same here I'm selling my Ipad 2 on ebay but will be sad in a way to see it go. Even though the new one is great.

Utterly in love, razor sharp text, immediate response times and the battery is pretty damn good.

Yes. Worth the money!

Apple are going to sell a lot of ipads this year. That is for sure.

Just had a play with a friend's IPad3 next to my Tab10.1. Yes the screen is brighter and sharper and I'm sure with the right app or media it will look amazing but it didn't blow me away on the web pages I saw or feel drastically faster. Also its too heavy for my liking. That said it is competatively priced so I would consider it as an option for a second tablet. However I can imagine the android competitors releasing similar or better specd tablets in the next few months so I don't think the IPad3 is going to be the massive success Apple need.

It makes for more choice and competes well in a couple of ways to the 250%+ faster Asus Prime.

Methinks with applications becoming so bloated for HD Apple might just invent their own memory card for their next tablet.

I've been using my new iPad all day yesterday and using Pages, have just created a Mothers Day card for my Mum!

Okay, I did create the initial A4 landscape booklet fold template in Microsoft Word on my PC but I sent that to my iPad and did the rest, took a photo with the iSight Camera, added it to the front and typed the greeting inside, then printed it. Worked like a charm.

I think I'll be using the iPad as my main web browser now as well.

To be fair Apples only the worlds most valuable company, with stocks nearly $600 a single share.

They clearly need a decent product to boost sales...

Cough cough.

Nooo! It doesn't even have a quad core processor! That's Apple for ya; completely out of touch with the needs of ordinary people. And that's why they're doomed I tell ya, doomed! Muhahahaha!

been a few big companies disappear recently in case you hadnt noticed

however .... i personally dont think Apple are in such danger.

They are likely to lose their lead in market share over the next few years though and return to a niche product where 'special' people are willing to pay their inflated prices for sub-par hardware (runs away and hides )

10 years ago Microsoft was the worlds largest company with no-one predicting it would relinquish that position any time soon. Things change. Apple had the Ipod, the Iphone and now the Ipad. Each was the cutting edge leader of it's sector before competitors woke up and developed products equal to or better than Apple's. The Ipad3 is good, maybe the best tablet on the market today but that won't be true for very long. If Apple wants to retain its position at the top of the tree it needs something new. The question is how important SJ was in driving the inovation within the company. Apple is riding high on the stock market right now for all sorts of reasons, its product line only being one of those. I expected the next Ipad to be a bigger advance just like I expected the 4S to be a bigger advance. It feels like Apple are relying on incremental evolution of products and relying on people having to have the latest version rather than true revolutionary products which only a few years ago was what they were known for. I persoanlly feel that the new Ipad has some significant weaknesses which the competition can easily exploit. If the next Samsung tablet for instance has as good a screen, as fast a processor but without the weight and includes a memory slot it would be the one I would choose.

I picked up an Ipad 3 and the display is incredible. It's actually annoying to have to go back to my normal Macbook Pro screen after using the Ipad. It's my first tablet device. I'll probably use that when I travel rather than carrying my MBP around.

Indeed for me the Ipad 2 matches a PC screen but the new Ipad is actually better than any screen.

It is said part of Apple's strength is in deciding what the leave off their products rather than what to add. Every design decision is a compromise. And Apple often compromises in different ways to other competing manufacturers.

The iPad for instance, it doesn't have a quad core processor. It only runs at 1GHz. It only has 1gb RAM. It's not bristling with interfaces. But it does have a epicly good screen, unrivalled quality feel and 10 hours of battery life.

However, there will inevitably be others who will play the spec game, bolting everything but the kitchen sink to their 'iPad killer', regardless of whether that thing is of much tangible benefit or not. The main compromises they'll have to make is either pisspoor battery life, a flimsy-light build quality, or make it the size and weight of a paving slab. That might be okay with a few nerds who only really look at spec numbers and price, but probably won't be such a big hit with ordinary folk.

You say you'd like a higher spec, lower weight tablet. But would you still want it if it only had a 3 hour battery?

Did I not see somewhere that although it is 4G, it is not much use over here, and when we do get 4G, it will not be the same as the U.S. 4G, should prove interesting, so sort of still 3G then

Maybe because it is (as with all tablets) smaller than a PC screen!

Remember when you were a kid a looked at a TV screen, if you looked at it the same screen through a small hole, either a bit of paper, or your fingers, the picture seemed sharper?

smaller screen sharper image

No it's not it's because it has more pixels than an HD tv.

If they made an Ipad retina 32" it would beat any screen but obviously it does not need to be that big.

It would also be hugely expensive at the mo.

Its all about cost effectiveness and viewing distances.

For example the ipad3 is high Res for a tablet (a little higher than the Asus pad 700) but is still very low Res compared to a phone. A TV will be low Res compared to a tablet as its bigger AND ITS USED FURTHER AWAY.

Bearing in mind you can buy a 32 inch TV for significantly less than an iPad you'd hardly expect it to be in the same resolution!

Having said that even cheap TVs don't try and force you to watch widescreen movies on an old fashioned 4:3 screen

Erm just because something isn't made by apple doesn't mean it will be flimsy or poorly designed/built you know.....

Apple aren't perfect

Everything is made in China anyway. Maybe the Apple children are a bit older.

Never suggested otherwise. I think you misunderstand.

I'm saying, with the iPad, Apple have compromised by sacrificed some areas of spec and added a little weight to retain a good build quality and a long battery life. Other manufacturers may make similar compromises. But others, to differentiate themselves, may choose to sacrifice build quality and/or battery life to gain bigger bullet point spec numbers and/or lower weight.

Which approach the buying public feels is the best remains to be seen. But I wouldn't bet against Apple's.
