Absolutely
And many see that as a positive ..... choice.

But to say these items are best is either opinion (ie in your case you find that they are best) or a deliberate attempt to flame.

Neither are best in my opinion.

And I can quite happily afford to buy apple products thanks. I just choose not to.

I do however know many chavvy types who wear their apple like bling....(and no I'm not saying every apple user is a chav!!! )

Wrong on both counts. The 4S has NEVER been number 1 in the UK.

and the winner is.....not the iphone. again.

You can say every apple user is a chav if you want, won't make it a fact. If I walk past a group of chavs I'm far more likely to see Blackberry 9300's or a budget Andriod eg HTC wildfire or something similar than I will a iPhone.

Now at my youngest daughters college a fair few seem to have iPhones as does she, and my oldest and her friends all use and need iPads iPhones ect for UNI. Even the lecturers walk round with iPads.

Go down you local unemployment office and see all the chavs with Android handsets.

Again I would say price was an issue, Virginmedia give free Galaxy S2's for £22 a month. You'll never get an iPhone for that price.

But I like the extra cost of Apple products, keeps that air of exclusivity.

Exactly. Limited choice of one also helps too, and I doubt it matters much at all what Apple offers.

I bought my S2 cash and use PAYG, same as many other folks.

In terms of image...my two children (both young professionals) won't use Apple phones because a: the top end Androids are slicker and b: an awful lot of the local chav/bling types walk around with Apple so my two don't like that image. We (children and I) talked about phones a lot last year and its seems that none of their close friends now use iPhones, many have in the past but mainly switched to Android and a couple of them use Windows phones, again their friends are mainly young professionals.

Nothing wrong iPhones, use what you like; they were leaders of the smartphone race but simply are not anylonger. I'm looking forward to getting a high spec W8 tablet later this year when one is launched...its all about choice

For easily excitable 'chav's' like I lead to assume I am from a quick browse, the Apple online store is down for an update. Chance of preorders, but more likely for the new Apple TV's.

Thats because everyone knows the apple mob are stupid enough to pay the high prices. So whats the point of reducing the price.

you are simply deluded. I have seen taxi drivers, students, unemployed people, supermarket shelf stackers, professional types etc all with iphones. There is no exclusive about them.

The tablet market is not the same. Most people just buy the tablet, they do not get it subsidised with a contract. As such, the high-end competition all tend to cost around the same price as the iPad (apart from the ones which failed miserably, and then had repeated price cuts to try and get people to buy them, such as the Xoom and PlayBook).

It's not just that which is different.

Apple's starting point in the market is far different from the smartphone market.

Apple never dominated the smartphone market the way it continues to dominate the tablet market. It was a late comer to the smartphone market, going up against existing manufacturers such as Nokia and RIM, and existing OSes such as Symbian and WM5.

The current tablet market, however, was effectively created by Apple. It has dominated it since the beginning, and although its share has decreased, that is only because of the increase in size of the market itself. It still utterly dominates it, and still sells more tablets than all the competition, with sales continuing to increase every single quarter.

Apple does not need to catch up with anyone else. They all need to catch up with Apple.”

That is one slant on it, not one I agree with. I see some of what you say makes sense. However I think that will just increase the time it takes for android to pass ios. Unless one of us can see into the future...we dont know for sure.

now you see I was very clear that I wasn't generalising .... more stating that the idea that people don't buy apple because they can't afford it is simply not true.

You however have lowered the tone and lovingly demonstrated the reason why a percentage of apple users are thought of with contempt.

My nexus must have an even bigger whiff of exclusivity then as I could have got a 4s on a cheaper tariff.....

Some android fanatics are no better.

If Android being available on over 150 handsets from around 20 manufacturers ranging in pricing from under £50 can't beat 1 phone from 1 company with a starting price of £499 then something is very wrong.

I've seen a lot of chavs walking around with android phones, iphones and blackberrys.

I wish that was the case!! When I got my iPhone 3G, I was the only person I knew who had an iPhone and remember that was the second release. I used to nod sagely as people shrieked in delight playing with the touch screen. Now nearly everyone's got one of the damn things and the horrible things was that casual users were waving their iPhone 4s at me in a superior manner. I was hoping to kick those casuals into touch by acquiring the magical iPhone 5 whilst they stuck with their phones (on renewed cheap contracts) thanks to hard financial times. But it didn't arrive and I've got the 4S now and it looks like a mere 4. Damn!

We all know by now that those oft-linked uSwitch results are not sales figures.

Words of wisdom or is it a user beating himself?

Apple certainly needs no marketing budget.

Lol!!

I think there are some people on this forum who target Apple users, and make them feel like they have commited a crime by buying an iphone.

I don't know why they do it. At the end of the day it's down to personal choice. A lot of people harp on about how iphones are expensive, but if you look at sim free high end android phones there's not a lot in price difference. Yet these comments fall on deaf ears.

Your not Kidding !

I was shot down as the Enemy of the State, called a liar, Apple fan boy, Apple employee and accused of having a broken phone when I highlighted by issues with my Galaxy S2 on here.

I'm not interested in sales figures just like I don't care if BMW sell more than Audi. I just prefer my Audi to a BMW and my iPhone to a Android.

Oh but you do.

I got my 4S free on a £25 contract as has countless people i know.

The iphone is not an exclusive phone only for the well off people seem to think it is. Its a mediocre phone which is completely hammered by the Galaxy S2 which wins award after award where the iphone wins nothing. I pine for the day i can get my S2 back, though i may wait for the S3.

The thing about iOS devices is they are boring as hell to look at now. Nothing has changed in years especially the OS. Ive had to jailbreak the hell out of my 4S to make it look semi decent.

Lets see what 5.1 looks like and that will determine whether i stay with this boring phone or not...
