Madonna - Live to Tell
I have said before about how much I love this song, it's actually my favourite ever song, does anyone else like it? Just the meaning to it, emotion, its rawness and presenting Madonna's vulnerable side, in my opinion it's one of the great ever ballads. I also believe it's a very underrated song of Madonna's

On The Confessions Tour she really did prove that a really emotive song can definitely translate through time. Very impactful and deep...i love listening to the audio CD of the tour and that emotion...incredible.
I love Madonna when she does uptempo anthems, i love her when she experiments with different sounds/styles but damn she can also nail expressive ballads! I also love that on True Blue is really bleeds out on its own legs in an album filled by Dance Pop/Retro Pop vibes of love and expression...it really is the dark horse of the album and proved a lot i think at the time too.

I think this is my favourite Madonna song. Certainly proves that you don't need a big diva vocal to pull off an emotive ballad.

I really like Madonna's ballads, "Something To Remember" is actually my favourite album of hers... I'm sure there was a poll some years ago (maybe accompanying the release of "The Immaculate Collection"), for people to vote for their favourite Madonna songs, and "Live To Tell" came top...

Yes, it's a great song, although just another jewel in the Queen's crown, her back catalogue is mind blowingly amazing. She will leave a legacy and body of work that will surpass everyone in music. That is why I think she has stuck to mostly futuristic sounding music in the last 13 years or so, she wants her music to be listened to in the next millenium. I hope it will be, even i the 2nd decade of the 21st Century 'Ray of Light' STILL sounds fresh and trendy and even futuristic. What an icon.

Its ok but I remember when it came out i felt quite deflated as it was the first new song off the next album and I didn't buy it (I subsequently did some month's later-the 12 inch version-as I went from fan to obssessed with the rest of the True Blue material ). It is a good song, but for me in most cases the later ballad's are far superior-especially from Like a Prayer. |

Crazy For You is one of my least favourites, I don't know why. |

While I love "Like a Prayer" and "Express Yourself" I do feel that the album is vastly overrated. Some of my least favourite singles are on that album - "Oh Father", "Dear Jessie". I've also never been paticularly fond of "Crazy for You" from 1985 either.
""Rain" and "You'll See" are far superior to any of the ballads she released pre 1992. I'll disagree though about 'Rain' & especially 'You'll see' - some of the ballads she made before 1992 are as strong today as they were when I first heard them. "Oh Father", "Promise to Try", "He's The Man" and of course "Live to Tell" are great ballads. I personally think compared to these ones and those she did afterwards, "Rain", while being very beautiful, is nothing exciting. As for "You'll See", it's her weakest ballad to date for me. |

one of her very best, i much prefer these classier tracks to her slutty teen image on modern material like 'hung up'.
this is my fav 'open your heart'... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snsTmi9N9Gs |

Superb ballad - really intense....a shame she hasn't done anything like this on recent albums (the "ballads" from Hard Cunty are mediocre to bland. No room for ballads on Confessions. AL was too stripped back to convey that much feeling - the best one was Intervention)

Her weakest ballad I think is the fairly tuneless One More Chance, a David Foster song that mystify's me why she recorded it. Her covers of Love Don't Live Here Anymore and I Want You were mistakes too, whilst we're at it. |
