dropping the 'midnight runners' frontman kevin rowlands band is back and releasing a new album in june

will it work?... im not so sure, i think theyll be too left field for todays uber commercial market, but if they produce tracks of the quality they did on their debut, seminal, album 'searching for the young sould rebels' then theyve a chance!

didnt rate their 'too rye aye' celtic incarnation as much and of course theyll always be remembered for 'come on eileen' which although was the pinnacle of commercial success, was possibly one of their less credible tracks.

personally i love the 'soul rebels' era ... heres the first three singles, class imho

from jan 1980, a minor hit 'dance stance' (possibly their best). only back in those days could a track like this chart.

'geno' ...#1 in may 80

'there there my dear' august 80

1980 was such a rich melting pot of styles, being different was credible, unlike todays boring samish crap.

Went to see them in 1980, my second ever concert. Truly amazing. Saw The Bureau as well later on. They were basically the brass section who went there own way. Had a couple of good singles.

I can't stand Come On Eileen. Absolutely horrendous song. I have no idea why so many people like it or why it's played at parties and weddings so much.

i saw them with teardrop explodes in nottingham, yep both were great... i have a single by the bureau but tbh i didnt think they lived up to their early singles.

i dont like it either, but i can see the appeal, its a good pop song and fits a paaar-tey atmosphere.

Maybe by the time that song comes on most people have had a few and would dance to anything?

I like There There My Dear best. I remember being in London the day it featured on Pick of the Pops in 2010. I was listening to it on my radio and refrained from catching the Underground until after the song had ended!
