G4 - in danger?
Spellbound
30-10-2004
I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. Not by the boy's performance, not in the slightest, but in what the stylists/vocal coaches have done to them.

What I loved about G4 (fabulous voices aside) was their style, their sensitive delivery of modern songs, the fact that they are who they are and not trying to be anything else. I wouldn't have changed a thing about them, it was all of this that made them unique.

Now the stylists have changed their look, the coaches have mucked around with the way they naturally express themselves, it's as if they're trying to do exactly what I feared, gradually transform them into something more 'ordinary' and take all that's spectacular away from them.

Please don't mess around with these boys too much, Louis, you'll be making them bland and run of the mill. Don't squash everything that makes them special.

Here here!!! The boys were astounding as they were in their original form!! Messing about with their style is going to ruin them! Leave them as they are Louis!!

Totally agree Spellbound.....what have they done do my beloved G4. Louis was totally out of order choosing that for them as was the stylist. But I do think their solid fan base will get them through this week, then hopefully they can put this behind them. On the positive side, I didn`t realise the tall guy had such a great voice.

I sincerely hope so. The novelty wore off some time ago. Now it's just irritating. I don't want to hear them murdering any more good songs. When I say 'murdering', I don't mean in the sense that they can't sing, but in the sense that they are singing totally inappropriate songs, or singing good songs in an inappropriate style, and it's really beginning to grate on my nerves.

i think they are spoiling them, the best i've ever seen them was at the first auditions when they did Bohemian Rhapsody. they're trying to convert them into mainstream acts and they're cramping their style. didn't like the song choice tonight and i think if louis doesn't start picking better songs they could be out sooner rather than later!

i totally agree! the way louis has changed the lads is stupid! he keeps saying that they r something special, but if he keeps on trying to change the way they are naturally, hes gonna change em in2 exactly wat we always see in the charts, an its about time we see something different!
Leave em alone louis, its the way they are that got em this far in the first place!

I think Louis should do the opposite with G4 to what Simon did with his acts tonight. Less is more and Louis should take away the music and simply let G4 sing songs of their own choice.

I agree - I loved G4 singing a capella in the audition rounds but I didn't enjoy 'Everybody Hurts' and 'Don't look back in anger' wasn't much better.

Excellent point about cramping their style Kristen. Boehmian Rhapsody was amazing. Tonight's performance just didn't work for me.

Maybe emzi can get a message to the boys. I havent seen her on here for a while. G4 should sing You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban next week without music. Guaranteed vote-grabber.

I enjoyed watching G4 in the audtion stages & right up to when they became part of the final 3.Last weeks performance i thought wasn't that great & going by tonights performance it was worse than last week.If they do go out tonite then Louis has to take all the blame. These aren't the same guys we saw in the early stages.

Echo that entirely. Backing tracks, fake expressions and the like are just not needed with these boys, they are fabulous as they are. If it's not broken, don't fix it.

I've always felt that Louis is not confident about G4's public appeal and this is probably why he's messing them up so much. These boys don't need to be 'manufactured', with other groups it can hide flaws in performance, with G4 it just disguises their natural genius.

As a side note, I liked their rendition of Everybody Hurts, I don't think it's the accompaniment that is the problem, but tonight you couldn't even hear their arrangement of the song, or the way they blend so beautifully together.

You're spoiling them, Louis, let them shine.

Exactly Spellbound. Louis has never had any real confidence in their ability to connect with the public. I think if Simon had the groups it would be an entirely different story.
Louis should not try to fix something that isnt broken in the first place. Simon said tonight that the judges can do anything they like to help their singers. Next week Louis should let G4 sing without music and a song that will suit their fantastic voices.

Exactly, let them be who they are. Stop trying to force them down a mainstream route. They don't fit there, they just look stupid. They should perform something that is in keeping with their genre and let the public decide on that.

Thats exactly it. G4 are not being true to themselves otherwise. I thought they looked uncomfortable on Xtra-Factor on Friday night when they announced their song pick for this week. .
Louis should give them the opportunity to do what they are best at. At least they will be able to say they stayed true to themselves and gave it their best shot.

It was G4 doing Bohemian Rhapsody that really grabbed my attention in the audition. I'm certain if they sung this on the show, it would go down a storm.

I really didn't like tonight's song choice and whoever came up with the idea that this would work, should be feeling very embarrassed. Fingers crossed they come up with a good song next week.

I wouldn't mind betting the boys themselves have a better idea of what songs would suit them. I think Louis should give them a free rein to do what they do best. Then the public can decide for themselves if they like G4, rather than Louis' vision of what G4 should be.

Well lets hope someone close to them lets them, and Louis, read this sort of thread. They need to prove the doubters wrong and get the floating voters on side.

Lol perhaps I should edit the title of the thread and call it 'FAO G4!'

G4... an interesting idea that ran out of steam I think.

Talented? Oh yes!
X factor? ... No, I don't think so.
