Sad, my Aunts all had a big crush on him when they were young. He was the Justin Bieber of the 60s.

I saw that. Darts Davy.
Some great songs with the Monkees (The Porpoise Song leaps to mind) then when he went solo he was even better with stuff like Ashes to Ashes and Heroes.

Joking aside RIP

.... Well a heart attack caused another pop star born David Jones to retire the best part of a decade ago.

RIP. Not a huge fan of their TV show, or their back catalogue of hit singles, but I loved their wonderful movie Head.

That's sad when he is so young. Seems strange to have a massive heart attack out of the blue like that. I wonder if he had a weak heart and didn't let on about it.

I remember buying Last Train To Clarksville when it first came out, and it is still my favourite song by the Monkees. No one else seemed to have heard about the Monkees when I bought it, and it wasn't much of a hit. Then a few months later they bought out I'm A Believer, and it got to No. One and everyone went mad about The Monkees.

He was only seen on TV at the weekend in the programme about boy bands.

Head is brilliant (childish snigger)
I've no idea whats going on in parts, or most of it, but it is pretty brilliant. Makes Magical Mystery Tour look like Heartbeat in comparison.

So sad a shame he was only on tv a few days ago on the documentary 'i'm in a boyband' and he came across really nice. The Monkees will be remembered for a long time both as the first manufactured boyband and of course their great songs. RIP

Sad news.

Just been listening to The Definitive Monkees. What a great song Shades of Gray is. Best thing they ever did, I reckon.

Its such a shame to see he died. The Monkees was such a good group with all their catchy songs & was a good tv programme. Must have been where the Goodies got their ideas.

I'm gutted I grew up watching The Monkees TV show on the BBC when they repeated it (or perhaps first aired it) in the 1970s.

Aye, same here.

Listen to the Band with Mike Nesmith singing is one of my favourites of their stuff. I also love Shades of Grey

Very sad to hear this news. Another one of my "idols" now gone. I only saw him a few days ago on TV in the boyband programme on BBC2.

How sad, especially after him being on the BBC boyband doc the other night.

Best Monkees song - Pleasant Valley Sunday.
