Sticky iPlayer HD playback on Mac

I have a new Mac Mini. One of the things I thought it would be good for is playing BBC iPlayer HD material. It isn't though. Static scenes look fine, but when the camera pans the image keeps sticking, as if the tripod pan head is sticking. (It isn't a 50 / 60 Hz problem, because I have my Mac set to 50 Hz.)

Anyone else see this? I suspect that it is a problem with the iPlayer app itself, since every other video file I have played is fine.

My brother has a Mac Mini and experiences similar problems with iPlayer HD, however he seems to have problems streaming HD content full stop, Netflix HD is a problem too.

It isn't a broadband issue though as both work fine on his PC.

I see the same problem with iPlayer desktop (but not in full screen mode, which is currently broken), so I think the problem is with decoding the video in iPlayer, rather than streaming. I tried the BBC's iPlayer streaming test page, and I have plenty of headroom in my download speed (it needs 3.5 Mbps, I have 5 Mbps).

The problem is dropped frames. Looking in Activity Monitor, iPlayer/Flash is using between 80% and 110% CPU (two CPUs, so can go up to 200%), which sounds like far too much. Mac Minis two generations older than mine don't break into a sweat decoding 1080p H264 video, so there is clearly something wrong with the software.

BBC iPlayer has had updated software 28th March, so it now plays full screen on iMac 10.7.3

It should automatically tell you next time you open iPlayer
