I set the box to record Homeland, which was shown on CH4 last sunday evening. When I came to watch the recording on monday, the recording was blank...

It showed as the correct length, but the screen was black when I played it back. If I tried fast forward , it droppped to the 'finished' menu.

I had a look at CH4 on the tv guide, and the picture looked ok, but I rescanned for channels anyway and set it to record on the monday evening repeat.

Tried to watch that recording on Tuesday, and the same thing happened!

I set a few random shows on CH4 to record on Tuesday and Wednesday, and they all worked...

Any thoughts on what could cause blank recordings?

Any why is Homeland available on 4OD but not the catch up service!!

cheers

Blank recordings can happen when you have one recording being made and another one starting while you are watching live TV.

Not sure of the exact circumstances but I used to get it when I had overlapping recording - as I rarely do that now I haven't had a blank one for a long time.

Do you use a booster and, if so, was it powered up?

Sometimes people switch everything off at the mains (or use a smart socket to do it for them) when they turn in and forget that turning off the booster is bad news.

Have you tried re-booting and the manual re-scan?

A few months ago there was a problem which is solved by an immediate re-scan after installation - the installation was changed to recommend this on-screen.

We had random blank recordings - after a manual re-scan the existing blank recordings returned. I had this with random overnight recordings of the F1 practices.
