Panasonic Drops Freesat Recorders

It is most unfortunate that Panasonic have decided to drop their Freesat Recorders - which came combined with a DVD or Blu-ray recorder. This meant one less box, less wires and one less remote control. They seem to be favouring internet streaming instead - something that for many offers inferior picture quality to Freesat HD or, in remote areas is simply impossible.

I have a Samsung Internet TV and to be quite honest, having hooked up the internet connection and tried it out and seen the rubbish content, I have now un-hooked it and just use it as a Freeview HD TV along with my brilliant Panasonic Freesat HD HDD twin tuner recorder with DVD recorder built-in.

Let us hope that some manufacturer will step into this market and offer Freesat HD recording along with DVD/blu-ray recording. Some people will say that DVD/blu-ray recording is old hat but I am of the belief that it is very useful to have a hard copy that you can tuck away or send through the post for the price of a letter. You will note that this is still the system used by the producers of wedding videos.

It's pretty obvious why, Panasonic lost LOAD'S of money with them, why should they continue selling them at a huge loss?.

thats disappointing news, i was only looking on panasonic's website yesterday to see if any new models had been introduced as the last generation has been out two years. i owned an XS380 and it was a very good machine, i only returned it because it was faulty, i would probably have got a replacement but it was a factory refurb and they didn't have any more in stock.

i was hoping panasonic would stick with the idea and make them even better as the years went by, i thought freesat was a growing platform, if it is it seems strange that they have pulled out.

Perhaps if they had marketed a basic Freesat+ machine without the extra cost of DVD or Blu-Ray burners they may have sold more.

Their products on offer were quite expensive to just receive free to air channels which are aimed at users who don't have free cash to waste.

That and of course the confusion over the new Freesat spec which no one seems very sure of.

Anyone with any knowledge would have known that a generic fta HD satellite box plus A PC with a blu-ray burner would have been cheaper, way more flexible and not subject to the limitations of Freesat/Freeview DRM restrictions.

As I said at the launch, DRM was bound to make it a ultimate failure at the price.

Shame this has happened DRM was & is a stumbling block but only ITV 1HD & Ch4 HD have DRM meaning you can only burn one copy in HD, make more than one & then only in SD, Still like a previous poster has said its good to have a hard copy in HD of a program you want to keep.
