It's quite sad to see Mel B, one fifth of biggest girl band the world had ever seen, doing adverts for some diet fad.
Is she really that desperate?

It's embarrassing.

That is sad..the spice girls never sold out and to corporate sponsors...only with cadburys, chupa chups, walkers crisps, pepsi, polaroid, tesco, asda, impluse, playstation, channel 5 and you hardly ever saw there faces or names on clothes, dolls, stickers, postcards, sweets, pens, bags, shoes, watches, caps, cosmetics, toys, biscuits, cookies, cakes, pizzas, towels, pillows, bean bags, mugs, backpacks, magazines, books, videos.

what a disgrace!!

"biggest girlband in the world"... Doesn't mean much really does it? Only one of them could well and truly sing. Victoria had the most successful career out of the lot of them. Mel B doing tacky adverts isn't really anything new as the rest are not doing much better... Emma Bunton often appears on Celeb Juice, the ultimate z-list show (amusing show of course).

I'm sure they're paying her a bucket load. Why is the OP acting as if they saw her working in Tescos?

I'm not "acting" like anything - what a bizarre comment.

My point is, and I'm no Spice Girls fan, is that from being part of a massive moment in pop culture and having a face that the whole world recognized - Mel B is now appearing in those daytime tv style ads saying she couldn't have lost weight without the help of "product name".
And yes, I know the Spice Girls we're part of any promotion going but that was more part of their managements world domination tactics.
This diet ad is just, well a bit sad really.

I haven't seen the advert but it does sound a bit desperate to me.

It's Jenny Craig which is a pretty good gig, as far as celebrity endorsements go. It's not like she's endorsing Lidl or Funkypigeon.com.
People like Mariah Carey, Queen Latifah, Kirstey Alley and Carrie Fisher have been past 'spokespeople' for the brand.

It's a very lucrative deal too.

The brand isn't as well-known in Britain like it is in the US and Australia, which is why it looks more desperate than it actually is... this is just my American-living-in-England perspective anyway.

Remember, in the US it's normal for big stars (not saying that Mel B is still a big star, but...) to do commercials for Proactiv, which is a spot cream! Katy Perry and Justin Beiber both just did commercials.

It's quite sad that so many young girls believed that their oft repeated mantra of 'Girl Power' was real and said with sincerity and conviction.

I wonder if their image would have worked if they kept doing that victory V sign with their fingers at the same time as shouting 'Corporate Puppets'?
....Actually come to think of it probably might work nowadays if they were just starting for the first time right now.

Yeah but those kind of ads are very American. Celebrities in the UK usually do ad voiceovers or do characters. It's not often they appear as themselves in "talking head" role.

Brits don't really take to celebs saying "buy this product - look what it did for me", so the Mel B ad comes across like a parody of a US infomercial. A very bad parody with a broad Leeds accent.

Mel actually also has her own reality TV show, is an X Factor judge in australia and also hosts Dancing with the Stars in the US.

So to be far, she is far from desperate!

Cheryl Baker is far superior to Mel B in my eyes - but I was a 7 year old gay boy in 1981.

*looks up Cheryl Baker*.....

Or you could flip it and say:

Mariah - Queen Latifah - Kirstey Alley - Mel B.. Because they were all Jenny Craig spokespeople too!

I'm no fan of Mel B's but when even heavyweight (excuse the pun) Hollywood A listers endorse crappy products for a fee, why the hell shouldn't she? And unlike some, at least in her case it appears to be a product she has actually used.

You wonder whether any of the PR people or 'yes men' she seemingly surrounds herself with will be brave enough to tell her she's acting like an idiot.
