What's your best or favourite scone recipe?

I love scones but never make them as they don't keep. Tesco sell some made with cornish butter that you heat up for a few minutes before eating. They satisfy my occasional cream tea cravings.

Any homemade recipe is fine, just remember don't overwork the dough, handle it as little as possible and eat on day of baking, as they go stale quite fast

Date and wheaten are my favourite with a big mug of tea.

As said most recipes for homemade are pretty ok. I have one from a good housekeeping book that I always pretty much rely on that book is a lifesaver sometimes.

Used to make these a lot but have to admit to cheating lately and buying the packet mix when I want scones. Cardinal food sin I know but its just the cost of butter lately that is putting me off doing them from scratch although normally would and packet mix isn't a patch on the real thing.

Haven't really done that much in the way of baking for the same reason although did do mini chocolate cupcakes a few weeks back and done with a chocolate topping.

I like putting fruit or chocolate chips through my scones and having them straight from the oven.

8oz SR flour
2oz butter/stork
11/2 oz sugar
2oz dried mixed fruit
milk
Rub butter into flour until it resembles breadcrumbs, add sugar, fruit and enough milk to make a soft dough. Roll and cut out, bake in oven no.6 for 15 mins.
For a savoury version leave out the sugar, add salt and flavours [2oz grated cheese, some mustard powder. Or grated onion and mixed herbs tastes quite nice. I like to experiment]

Cheese Scones, I love them. I do make my own now and again when I got some time. a recipe my mum use to use, from a book that is years old

I had some in a hotel the other day and they were amazing - they were so buttery. I would love to know what butter/marg they used.

Thank you - I wish I knew the most buttery butter/marg to use to get that wow factor
