When on holiday, I usually transfer each day's photos into a netbook and then onwards, to face book or photo bucket and so on.

Now I'm the proud owner of an iPhone 3GS, which does everything I need from a holiday netbook for a fraction of the weight.

However: Is there a way of transferring photos from camera to iPhone? I wondered if there might be an adaptor that would link my camera's USB cable to the iPhone's slot?

you'll need to transfer them from your camera to a PC/netbook and then, using iTunes, sync your photos to the iphone. You can select certain ones or all.

if you are taking all your photos on the 3GS though (which won't be as good as your digital camera), then why do you need your netbook?

you can upload them direct to facebook from your iphone.

Yup. I just don't find the 3GS photos very good. However, I've only had it a week, so maybe I'm doing something wrong. Can't find a zoom, for example. I'll persevere.

the 3GS is an old phone in terms of technology - it's only 3 megapixel.
it has a digital zoom, but that generally is not recommended as you tend to lose image quality.

the cameras in the iphone only become good with the 4 and 4S.

There are no cheap options as unfortunately the iPhone does not support USB Host mode - ie. you cannot connect USB devices to it, it can only act as a slave. If you're desperate not to take the netbook, you could pick up an "Eye-fi" card - a memory card with Wi-Fi built in - which would achieve your goal, but at approx. £10/GB they are pricier than you might be anticipating.

I don't know if Apple plan to add USB Host support in the future, but it would be neat if they did. On my phone I can connect the camera directly, the Gallery app pops up and says "Touch to Import", and bam! It's done. I hope at some point in the future you are able to do the same.

I have a USB Micro SD adapter which I can transfer music and photos onto my Samsung with not sure if it would work with Apple.

I have some more researches to do, clearly! I appreciate the responses, they help me understand the phone a bit more.

You don't really. If you're going on holiday and want really great holiday snaps and the ability to view/edit/delete them whilst you're away then take

1. a proper digital camera. The quality of the iPhone 3GS camera is average at best, and in my opinion, is actually pretty poor.

2. Your netbook and a cable to copy the photos to.

The iPhone 3GS doesn't have a method of getting the photos off without a cable and a computer unless you email them to yourself, and if you don't have a wifi connection on holiday, the data costs abroad will be horrendous.

I use my Android phone or iPhone 4 for quick snaps to bung on Twitter or Facebook or to MMS to someone. For photos that I'd actually want to keep and treasure as a quality reminder of a holiday, I'd always use a proper camera.

Would people actually read the problem and stop giving incorrect advice. There's no camera kit, no USB host, no removable SD card.

It's an iPhone 3GS. It's an old phone with a mildly sucky camera!

I'm taking my rather nice digital camera, and usually download to netbook and upload to wherever every evening. It won't kill me to do the same, just wondered if there were an iphone option to suck pictures from camera to upload, as I don't really need the netbook for anything else. This is my first iphone, I guess I'm expecting too much from it, blown away as I am with what it does do!

Download phone view app then connect iPhone to computer via USB and then select photos to copy off phone.

The whole point of the thread is that the OP's iPhone has taken the place of his netbook for most functions, so he didn't want to take the netbook away with him.

But, there's no way of copying photos from the digital camera directly to his iPhone.

Sadly, the options really are for him to take the netbook, or to take spare SD cards and copy the pictures over when he gets home.
