Netflix picture quality
SkyPlatinum

Hi there I have Netflix and watch it via apple tv on my 46 inch Sony Bravia LCD tv. I currently have sky broadband but only get a speed of just over 4mbps. I find the picture quality pretty poor on standard definition and only adequate if playing a HD stream. The quality is very good on the small screen iPad. My question is if I upgraded my broadband to fibre 40 Mbps would it upgrade the picture quality or not...

I would say a better broadband connection would make a massive difference. I use Netflix too and even SD content quality is very good on all my devices and I put that down to my BT Infinity connection.

Don't forget that there are three different video quality settings within the settings menu on Netflix. You may have it set on the lowest, so best to check this first.

4mb is pretty low. You don't need fibre optic by any means but it's definitely the best. I get about 7mb on my O2 broadband but it's sufficient for two Netflix HD streams. Fibre is quite pricey at the moment but it's the future.

I get around 4Mb/s on my network and I get good quality SD and even medium HD. The quality also depends on the quality of the original recording as well.

Saying that there is no traffic management on my service so that helps.

So just the picture quality or do you have buffering issues? Admittedly 4mb/s is poor but should be enough for netflix. Traffic management should not impact on netflix.

Don't forget the quality of your wireless router and location (of the router and your receiving device) can make a massive difference. At 4mb you might also consider running a wired connection.
