But your post wasn't about liking the music wasn't it about them being "uninteresting"? You didnt mention musically in the quote so I took it as an overall general quote on them. If I found somebody so uninteresting I certainly wouldnt be inviting them round for tea and a chat and to compare the level of our success.

GA have some good songs, but was never pushed on them. I prefer the sound of Spice Girls/Sugababes and All Saints. SG have classics people will remember for years and All Saints have songs like Never Ever/Pure Shores, GA wishes they had songs as good as those.

The Spice Girls were great and definitely achieved a lot of things in the 1990s, I was a fan of them growing up.

But I think that Eternal were vocally one of the best and more underrated groups we had here in the UK. They were the ones who had the edge in music for me. I think I would squeal if they reformed and released something new.

My apologies for being over the top earlier!

In response to the person who was telling me about Spice being a very good album, i just spent some time listening to it.

Here's my opinion.
The 5 singles are stellar. Really stellar (Wannabe, Say You'll Be There, 2 Become 1, Who Do You think you are, Mama) 9/10 - iconic single after iconic single - quite good

The rest of the tracks sounded better than i last remembered.
Love Thing - still not crazy about it 5/10
Last Time Lover - a bit weak for me 4/10
Something Kinda Funny - better 7/10
Naked - quite average 5/10 not much here
If You Can't Dance - good ender 7/10

The production on the album tracks is too simple for me, thats what it is. I like fast beat upbeat sounds of Aloud records but overall it's better than last remembered. I'm looking forward to listening to the 2nd album.

I am so impressed by those singles though,no wonder they where HUGE- they are iconic those songs.

Just amazing and the buzz was incredible. Geri's image in the Union Jack dress went on every front page around the world.”

Yeah that was good but Stop was better the year after.

i really love that performance. it didn't have the same cultural impact as the previous year, that was truly bonkers. i really like girls aloud too, they lasted longer than anyone expected and made great pop music in the process. however, the spice girls really did take the world by storm.

It's a hard decision
I love all the singles Spice Girls released whereas some Girls Aloud singles were hit and miss. But I prefer Girls Aloud in terms of their back catalogue and personalities.

I think this is my favourite performance from Girls Aloud

I tell you what I think honestly.

The Spice Girls are the best and its the songs. Only the Spice Girls could sing the tracks they did. No other girl band could have pulled them off.

Where as with Girls Aloud, the Saturdays, Atomic Kitten and even at some points the Sugababes have all had very similar sounding tracks. Songs like Love Machine, See The Day, The Promise, Can't Speak French etc could be sung by any girl group and still sound the same and have the same impact.

The same cannot be said for Wannabe, 2 Become 1, Who Do You Think You Are etc... so I think that is why the Spice Girls were so unique and rare. No other girl group could have done those songs and had the impact they did. They weren't just another girl band. They were thee girl band.

I agree about Wannabe etc, but their slower songs could be sung by others.

Sugababes have sold MORE albums than Girls Aloud.

Where's the logic in the title topic?

Completely agree. Girls Aloud songs are embarrassing in comparison. The only song I can listen to now without wanting to switch off is The Promise.

Spice Girls, Sugababes and All Saints had some amazing songs. Songs that only they could get away with singing and performing. Girls Aloud are just so generic to me. Same as The Saturdays.

I dont get the argument.

Spice Girls are the biggest selling girl group ever...You cant compare stats for GA to them. Thats just funny.

I can't believe Eternal have only been mentioned twice. I loved the Always & Forever and Power of a woman albums, They had great songs such as So Good, Oh Baby I, Power of a woman, Just A Step from Heaven, Crazy, Someday, I wanna be the only one etc

You really think that 2 Become 1, Mama and Viva Forever could have been Girls Aloud singles?

No way. They were unique to the Spices and that is what puts them ahead. Its all in the personality of the group.

See The Day, Life Got Cold, Call The Shots etc could have been sung by any girlband. That is the difference.

Its also why the Spice Girls songs have never been covered since.

Don't really see how Girls Aloud are generic. Not when you have songs like 'Biology' which make use of informal song structures, verses and choruses.

You can't really say they are generic either, considering the same production team wrote and produced some of the songs people are lauding over.

Biology is the best song Girls Aloud have ever done. Apparently Charlotte Church rejected the track!

What I always found funny about Girls Aloud was when Cheryl was slagging off the likes of Charlotte and All Saints for copying them!!

It wasn't a case of anyone copying them. It was a case of the music being so alike. That was the problem.

The early Spice Girl and All Saints stuff was like nothing out there at the time which is why they became so successful off the back of it. Girls Aloud were singing the exact same stuff Atomic Kitten were. Nothing was unique to them.

Well said. I personally couldn't stand Biology. It's just cheesy and horrible. Agreed on the "copying" thing with Cheryl accusing All Saints and Charlotte Church - Girls Aloud were (are) so predictable and as I said before, generic, that they just sounded like everyone else. It's not as if Girls Aloud were some sort of ground-breaking, iconic girl group

How could they sound like everyone else? 2005 for example, when they released Chemistry, they were one of few POP artists about. The UK charts were full of Greenday, The Killers, Keane, Chemical Brothers, 50 Cent, Akon, Gorillaz, Coldplay, James Blunt, Eminem etc.

The same can be said for 2006 also with the likes of Muse, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Keane, Razorlight and Snow Patrol.
