First of all - are Girls Aloud really active? They've been on a break since 2008!
Secondly, Girls Aloud are nobodies in Europe. I wouldn't say there's really a "big" girl group at the moment, but if there's one with potential to hit it big on the European market it's Stooshe - they have that cheeky attitude that us Europeans tend to lap up, but it'll all depend on if Warner decides to launch them here I guess. Sugababes, like them or not, are the last UK based girl group to hit it big in the European markets (even if they fizzled at the end of 2005 when Mutya left) and the last one to do it on a worldwide scale are the Pussycat Dolls. Girls Aloud aren't even on the radar outside the UK. ![]() Out of all those, who realistically will sell the most albums/records this year i think logically it'll be Girls Aloud followed by Little Mix. I do think that makes a case that by the end of the year Girls Aloud will return to pole position. When i said biggest active girl band please remember i meant BRITISH,so not being part of Europe is irrelevant. Biggest girl band active internationally? perhaps the Veronicas? Dixie Chicks i know it ain't Aloud internationally. There's been some great girl bands there's no denying that, we all have our preferences, i do mine!

Why did you only include Little Mix, Eternal and Bananarama on the "Least Favourite" and not on the "Favourite"?

OK I've logged the votes we've had so far for that specific poll and here's a NEW LINK to vote for best girlband
http://poll.pollcode.com/0sg1 That's 7 votes for Spice Girls, 3 votes for Girls Aloud and 1 each for Atomic Kitten and Sugababes that will be added on. Because i cannot edit my original voting link post on the previous page any further votes on the original poll will be added on to these results. |

waste of time. |

See for me the spice girls were more a brand/marketing exercise I mean there music especially live performances were very limited, they only had a few concerts besides the reunion tour. It wasnt about voices and proving they could sing or dance etc, it was just about making money and promoting girl power worldwide
Girls Aloud to me deserve far more credit, yes they started on a reality show but went on to prove themselves to the Industry and general public. While they havent had worldwide success, i dont think that should take away from theyre success anyhoo its one of those things that to me just dont compare, I hop GA get back together as there music is what sets them apart ( oh and Xenomania!!) |

Winners List - The Girl Band Awards
The Spice Girls dominated the awards taking nearly ever single award. Whilst its suspicious that this may have found its way on a Spice fan site, the results are all counted. Congralations to Girls Aloud for Tangled Up a terrific album. Well done Spice Girls it seems obvious that you are a British institution! There was a lot of love for Girls Aloud and they just got pipped in a few awards, and Sugababes & Destiny's Child showed evidence of strong support. BEST BRITISH GIRL BAND The Spice Girls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MCNTtPAE1A http://www.youtube.com/watch v=Iq32v...eature=related BEST MEMBER IN A GIRL BAND Geri Halliwell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqXUpe3jlkA BEST MUSIC VIDEO ''Wannabe'' Spice Girls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJLIiF15wjQ BEST SONG Stop - Spice Girls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-BagVSee7A BEST ALBUM Tangled Up - Girls Aloud http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utcNdeq9SuQ Spice - Spice Girls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-BagVSee7A LEAST FAVE GIRL BAND Girls Aloud http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMOtX-hmHtg Thanks for voting everyone! ![]()

Winners List - The Girl Band Awards
BEST ALBUM Spice - Spice Girls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-BagVSee7A Spice Girls were bigger than all the other UK girlbands combined (btw im not a fan of any of this kind of music). They not only were the biggest selling girlband on the planet.. but no girlband has ever been as culturally significant.. that whole Girl Power gimmick was huge. I cannot see a girlband ever repeating what they did. |

I just voted Spice Girls best album so you can remove the awful Girls Aloud.

It's interesting that the more vanity obsessed groups Girls Aloud and The Saturdays where tied for least liked girl band!![]() Personally? Girl band - Girls Aloud Band member - Nadine Coyle Least liked - hmm... Destiny's Child (over-rated) Best song - The Promise Best album - Tangled Up Music Video - The Promise!

Sugababes actually had hit singles and albums outside of the UK. They are well known in Denmark, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, New Zealand, and here in Australia. Girls Aloud are virtually non-existent outside of Ireland and the UK.

Ha no more votes are being taken, the poll was open for about 2 weeks so i think i allowed enough time for votes. If 2 people vote for Best song Girls Aloud could take that from Spice...It's just not fair - the votes are good.

Spice Girls are the only truly global UK girlband... the next would be Bananarama who had international success to a smaller degree. The rest are non existent. |

Had Love Machine, Biology, I'll Stand By You and Jump been released in the last few years all would have sailed passed by 600k and Sound of the Underground would have done a million as each of those songs were massive in a poor era for single sales |

Do NOT get me wrong. I absolutely love some of the hits these girls have had out and I don't want any negative backlash in this thread, just opinions. Both girl bands have released some of the greatest songs. But I think The Sugababes are definitely who I think of when I think 'Britains biggest girl band'. The original line up didn't try and be sexy or anything, they're like Little Mix are now.
I always feel Sugababes are overlooked for this title. Even now I still listen to songs by the original Sugababes line up (and with Heidi). |
