Which song? Nicki's or Alexandra's?

I think they mean Nicki's.

I predict Alexandra will chart at 3, with sales of around 50,000.

I don't think so, I bet it'll be more. A lot of people like it. I bet it'll be 75-90k. If it was more I'd be surprised.

Alex has huge competition from Gotye, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and Labrinth. I hope she get the number 1.

Me too, I'm pretty sure Labrinth has moved his release to the week after? IMO Katy Perry is the biggest competition.

If Alex does get to number 1 this would be her most impressive chart record to date, no radio support, no featured rapper...I wonder what excuse people will use if she gets to number 1

She should get to number 1 seeing as the her only competition are songs released 3+ weeks ago. Overall sales are more important than chart positions to the label.

I agree, but a number 1 would be a great way to start the new era...

Even if Nicki did promo here (there isn't much she can do) it might not do anything. Beyonce headlined GLASTONBURY. And had average album and single sales. GLASTONBURY. I don't see what it could do. And it wasn't like Bey was atrocious, she gave a brilliant festival show.

Well, Best Thing I Never Had went to #1 on iTunes after Glastonbury. It was released on a Monday though, instead of a Sunday, so it only charted at #3 officially that week.

Promotion always boosts, a song, but I don't think Starships can get enough of a boost to get to #1 just from that. It may do if it has a music video out by then.

I think Gotye will be #1 that week. I'm not even sure if Katy is releasing next week, and Labrinth has moved to the week after, so he's up against JLS and Gotye (again) instead.

Did you just say Alexandra Burke is more popular than Nicki Minaj?

From a Uk sales perspective, yes. It's only very very recently that Nicki has had success. I've been a fan from the start, early 2010. And I saw how each of her singles were ignored, till Girls fall like dominoes, and then super bass. She's only popular when she comes out with a poppy song. Her proper hip hop stuff is ignored. Also lots of airplay doesn't mean good sales. Dappy got R1 support and Capital and is out of the top 10. I thought he'd get a #1 for sure. Same for Marcus Collins. Forcefeeding doesn't always work. Ed Sheeran has lots of airplay for Drunk and it was a top 20 hit (I know his albums out and all).

Well Dappy did state you can;t get to #1 with bad songs, so that explains alot LMAO

Even if she does have high pre-orders, she still needs more radio support and promo otherwise it'll drop like a stone the week after. As 'Gaspanic!' said, overall sales are more important than peak position anyway.

Nicki is not that popular in the UK....Alexandra has had more #1s than her and both debuted in the same year....

Nicki has only really been pushed in the UK since early last year. She's obviously not as well known, but there seems to be more excitement around her and her music than Alex is getting.

I mean Nicki is co-top billing so many UK festivals this year. There's proper hype. Especially with two singles in the Top 10.

Nicki sells as long as radio play her. Notice her singles which got next to no airplay, they don't sell. Also as long as she does this poppy rap business, she's fine. UK folks aren't here for her hardcore hip hop. Which is a shame. Alex should've been at festivals, but she's never asked (ie Radio 1's big weekend, but they invited Cheryl...).

Seriously you need to stop dragging other popstars to make yours look better.

Yes there is no denying Alexandra is the better singer, but you quite often bring other artists into it to big up Alex and it is unnecessary. Cheryl was invited as she is a much bigger star than Alex in the UK, it is that simple. I would love for Alex to be asked to perform festivals, but slating other acts isn't going to achieve anything.

I'm not. But in mid 2010, they were both as big as each other sales wise. I'm not dragging no one. I don't need to 'drag' others to make Alexandra look better.

i agree, its tiring to read. in fact, i only opened this thread due to seeing your username being the last post. i wanted to read an objective opinion on this release for a change. i wish her all the best of luck for next week though.

You brought Cheryl into this and were confused as to why she would be asked, well she is a bigger overall star. Cheryl attracts more press attention, gets better ratings etc than Alex would be able to, and remember it also airs on tv so that is important.

I didn't know the video for Nicki's song wasn't yet released! But I'm not a big fan of hers anyway.

Radio 1 hate her so that was never going to happen. She always gets invited to the Jingle Bell and Summertime Balls by Capital which are bigger in my view....
