you da one had strong airplay the first week and i thought it was gonna be a hit but all of a sudden when it failed to hit the top 10 here in america it flopped and it calmed down in airplay after the first few days. it was released to the radio first and then after a few days it was released as a single. it only peaked in america at no.14. it was a disappointment and i think it was overshadowed by the success of we found love considering its still doing well right now on the radio. we found love has no intention of getting out of the top 10 yet. it was no.1 for 10 weeks!! i think she should've waited until right now to release you da one because we found love was still doing well at that time.

That's exactly what I thought when watching the interview. Her accent seems to go all over the place and did hear a bit of Jamaican twang here and there. Towards the end of the interview the twang was even more obvious!? But maybe the Barbadian accent is close to the Jamaican one?

On a different note, didn't think much of her interview and her performance was ok but didn't really elevate the song...

Bajan accents vary. Most west indians don't have as strong accents as before ie their grandparents. When I watched a video of her in Barbados, most of the people didn't have a strong accent.

Interesting. Very messy era indeed. I would not be surprised if she does not tour this album. In fact I hope she doesn't. I liked the performance on J Ross. Interview was ok. I mean Rihanna is rather charismatic, generally. But recently I can't help but look at her and wonder if she's possibly 'on something' .

This is true. Rihanna has also said before that she tones down her accents for the media. Some videos of her in Barbados show a stronger Bajan lilt in her accent, but iseloid is right, most west indians accents aren't as strong as they once were.

@iseloid @asdabio234 - Thanks guys! I see what you mean. I've got a few friends from Bermuda and their accent is quite soft too. Not familiar with the Bajan accent so was trying not to make an easy assumption with my post although I'm not if that's how it read...
